I saw this picture the other day and almost screamed bloody murder in the middle of my nice quiet office, it creeped the hell out of me...*shudders*

I remember reading about a woman with arachnophobia and her psychologist's plan for recovery. She was given a list of progressively more freaky spider encounters, and was told to work her way up the list over a period of time. Halfway up the list was this scenario:
Imagine a neighbour mentioning to you that she saw a spider in her garden shed a few days ago.

I'm guessing randomly encountering this photo would be pretty high up on such a list.

That happened in Australia, but pretty much all the other photos in the whatsthatbug blog were taken in the northern hemisphere. Which makes me fear for my life.

@12: I'd rather see giant spiders eating people who dress up their pets in ridiculous costumes. Rice Krispies Cat is even creepier than the giant spider.

The heron thing reminds me that after the dinosaurs croaked, scientists think flightless birds were the apex predators for a long time. Probably many of our ancestors were dunked underwater until dead. *Shudder*.
