didja read the comment blaming whatever it is on obama: "The problem is that the reality of life is not all have the best interest of this nation at heart and Sen. Obama with his associations, friendships and involvements is clearly one of those whose motives are at least questionable if not outright destructive. We live in dangerous times and great care must be taken to insure the next leader of this nation is not one of the enemy."

Thanks for the panic. It looks to me like a "Va tech" copy cat situation, though the no fly zone is weird.

Welcome to the first days of the Zombie Apocalypse. Sources on the net are saying that a "test subject" broke free of restraints and that an unknown number of researchers have been exposed. While most of the researchers have been located, a few are still missing. Bust out your survivalist gear, the end of the world as we know it is near. If you haven't you should all go out a get a copy of the zombie survival guide, its our only hope.

Ordinarily I'd say these are shenanigans from Republicans hoping to make everyone paranoid enough to vote Republican. They've used terrorism before, as we all know, to scare people into support.

But Tennessee isn't one of the battle states. It'd go Republican if McCain took a dump on the Capitol steps and smeared it on Cindy in front of news cameras. Lots of insurance and banking money in Tennessee, you see, but only about nine people have all of it. I know it's the heart of the Bible Belt, but how do Republicans win the hearts and minds of a state loaded with jobs that pay $8.14/hr? I guess they're waiting for their REE-ward in heaven.

@ 12: you're so right. we should be very afraid and ready to either defend our homes or get to someplace that is defensible before it is too late.

Allow me to decode the rest of the article:

"Classes are canceled for the rest of today and tomorrow, and the FBI has issued a no-fly zone near the campus, police said."
Translation: some weird shit is going down

“We want to minimize the exposure. Unless we have other reasons to close down the campus we have made a decision to minimize exposure on the academic part because the fire threat pertains more to the residence hall."
Translation: uh-oh...

"The campus decided there is no need to evacuate the campus right now, although security for students who are staying on campus will be maintained."
Translation: they are attempting to keep the zombies apart from the students

"MTSU spokeswoman Lisa Rollins ... described campus Thursday afternoon as “pretty quiet. No one is walking around.”
Translation: no one is walking, but there is a lot of shambling and running going on

"Law enforcement tactical teams swept campus this morning for a possible suspect or witnesses."
Translation: change "suspect" to "zombie" and "witness" to "person who was infected"

"The FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Murfreesboro Police Department, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department, Rutherford County Emergency Management and MTSU Campus Police have been involved in the investigation."
u>Translation: they needed back-up

"Doors to Peck Hall in Walnut Grove have been locked and signs announcing class cancellation for the remainder of the week have been posted."
Translation: i don't want to know what is in Peck Hall, but i hope it can't get out.

The inhabitants of Peck Hall delved too greedily, and too deep.

dammit, i knew the zombie wars would start in the south. that is not good news people, too many religious wackos, the zombies won't be confronted by a unified and competent force. i guess the bible belt is a fitting place for this to start though.

Spoke with my sister-in-law who's faculty at MTSU. She said that while classes were canceled, administrative offices and the buildings are open. She also said that they had mid-terms this week and were just starting fall break on what is predominantly a commuter campus, so the whole canceling classes thing isn't quite as dramatic as it sounded. She also mentioned that the school has an aviation program with a small airport near campus, so the no-fly-zone might have been related to concerns that someone might try to get in there. She did say when she had to go to campus today to turn in grades, there were lots of plain white Crown Victorias driving slowly around.
