People like him speak in flowery terms about blessings from God, et al. But what he has no clue about is that bringing a child into the world with a trisomy (as in Downs) is crippling to an entire family. Apart from the cognitive disability, Downs comes with other serious medical problems. Caring for a child with Downs is a massive lifetime commitment.

It's so sweet and dear that Palin can lug Trig around like a prize in a $95 romper (or have one of her other kids tote him around). Lucky for her, she can sell some of her 150 grand clothing to pay for his nannies, special ed teachers, and health care. For the rest of us, a healthy child is large enough of a life and financial burden.

One small comment: I don't think it's fair to call Down's Syndrome a *severe* disability. It's a disability, but someone who can't speak, needs tube feedings, and is wholly immobile is severely disabled.
