But she's so naughty and hot! Doesn't that count for anything anymore? Stupid commie euros.

She's so extremely unfunny. Doesn't that count for anything anymore? Stupid Americans for making her famous.

Sadly, @2 wins in this case.

for the life of me i can't figure out why this is such a big story, but defamer has the youtube evidence you're looking for. i didn't watch it but the commentary suggests she didn't bomb nearly as bad as the bbc would like you to believe.

Her new show is terrible. She's going for "edgy" and lowest-common-denominator at the same time.

50 pounds is what? 75-80 bucks? You usually get an hour for that. Of course, it's always polite to tip as well.

I'm a huge SS fan, but her Showbox show here a year or so ago was a letdown. Mostly comprised of recycled material, short set, not too much acknowledgment of the people in front of her (although the audience still ate everything up). I came away a little disappointed, perhaps because janeane garofalo did a kick ass set on the same stage a few months earlier. JG is the real thing.

I get a lot of UK telly sent to me (hi Schmader! It's me your Jon Stewart stalker) and SS was in the last Amnesty benefit the Brits did and bombed horrifically. I thought her set was so bad that I edited it out of the show before saving a copy on disc. So her reception there isn't without precedent.

Her show, like her act, is funny.

Thread complete.

If she recycled material from Jesus is Magic, she deserves to be booed. I like Sarah Silverman but that dvd was AWFUL!

Also, have British people ever done anything funny? I'll give you Ricky Gervais I guess, but anything else? AbFab, Monty Python, and Red Dwarf definitely don't count.

I have a friend who describes her as "the kind of girl who looks like she smells bad." Maybe it's all the fart jokes or something, but I think this accurately describes her.

@14:

How about AliG and Borat then?
Personally, I prefer Monty Python.

I enjoyed the Showbox show. And Jesus Is Magic! Whatever. She has the best job out of anyone reading this (Dan Savage possibly excepted).

@17: she did two shows that evening. maybe the first one was better and she smoked up too much between shows? she just seemed bored.

I was at that Showbox show, and she killed. ...as did Brian Posehn. It's funny (as in ironic) that those who complain about her being unfunny often can't handle a comedian with a unusual style/timing. She's got both, and she's a hottie to boot.

oh, and her show is funny.

Signed,

Wannabe Mr. Silverman

@22, no shit!

There are too many people (esp. Sloggers) with the attitude of "I don't understad it, therefore it must suck! BOO!"

Get over yourselves...

@22: I can "handle" SS quite fine. I generally love her and her tv show and her humor, etc. I've defended her countless times to others. But she seemed bored and was recycling the same 'ol material at that second Showbox show. I guess I was just expecting more.

I've said it elsewhere, but Rob Bryden is the funniest man who has ever lived on the planet. Funnier than Ricky Gervais, funnier even than Steve Coogan. "Human Remains" is an absolutely incredible series. Julia Davies is fantastic in it as well. His new one "Gavin & Stacy" is worth a look too. Brits (Bryden's a Welshman) have their faults, but they rule the universe of TV comedy.

I've never found her amusing.
How did she get this far?
I did like her attempt at getting elderly Jewish voters to vote for Obama.

Sarah Silverman must get some more material , i am a fan and watching her in London last week was painful as it was all old stuff and after doing stand-up for 20 years she should be able to fill for a 20 min encore! after a 40 min set.
Eddie Izzard is the king of Stand up and i have seen him several times after 40 mins Eddie is just warming up and he knows how to work an audience and think on his feet Sarah could do with watching him and learning how its done

She just died... died at the Amnesty International gig last year.

It's a pity she doesn't seem to have learned from that errr 'performance.'
