I think she is dangerous...but in the same way GWB was dangerous.

He was called an idiot for 8 years, yet he was also elected twice.

It's great to make fun of her eccentricities and her insane positions. At the end of the day that is what gets elected in this country. Obama campaigned for two years. Palin is already starting on her four year campaign.

Blithering idiot? Asshole maybe, but this woman is not any dumber than GWB.

With all due respect:
No No No. When I was young there were Science Fiction stories featuring Ronald Reagan running for president. Nine years ago there were people I think of as smart hoping the "unelectable" GW Bush would be the nominee because Al Gore and a good economy would win out.
Weird stuff happens in politics! It's better to have halfway decent candidates all around (and yes that's asking a lot).

Maybe Obama can reach out and appoint her Ambassador to the Frozen North, and outfit her with a shotgun in her own White House igloo.

From her outpost, Sarah can keep an eye out for Putin rearing his head, and could also dialogue with wacky seccessionists like her husband Todd.

Patrick @9, the difference is, GWB's candidacy was manufactured by the Republican party, because they liked the fact that his brain was a blank slate. Palin, on the other hand, is showing herself to be a wildly loose cannon, and I bet the Republican insiders will make very sure she never has another chance. I think "delusional" sums it up pretty well.

Besides which, shrub was a product of a traditional rich-white-male GOP-run "good old boys club", and therefore already part of the inside circle, regardless of his malleability .

Palin is a complete outsider in every sense of the word, and the big suits that run the GOP, while they may think of her as a useful tool (although perhaps not so much currently), aren't about to let her get near the buttons that activate and control the party infrastructure.

Not that she won't try of course. If we've learned anything about Palin in these past few weeks since the GOP Convention, its that her unbridled, ruthless ambition has achieved much more than any other politician of her ilk should have been able to do, and may in fact carry her even a bit further.

Yes, the GOP base (evangelical white christians) love Palin, but as everyone knows, you cannot get elected with just the GOP base. How is she going to rebrand herself after this? People love to pull any example from the past, and like magic, apply it to the present, but it doesn't quite work that way. Yes, Bush won, but just barely in 2000, and his re-election had everything to do with the completely lacking John Kerry Presidential Campaign, swift boating, which he allowed, and the pussy dems, not wanting to seem un-american. That is not the case this time.

I agree with Patrick. She is precisely the kind of candidate the right supports. She promises a free ride just like GWB and people buy that shit. Then she lets the vultures devour the country. It would not surprise me in the least if she was the party leader after this election. And yeah, it is frightening. That's why it is crucial everybody sees to it that an Obama administration succeeds.

Agreed, we trivialize the opposition at our peril. I think Joe Sixpack would elect Palin in a heartbeat. I just don't think she will ever be in that position ever, ever again. To get to the point of the public voting for you, you have to get past the party bulldogs.

I have to disagree. She's pissed off too many high ranking Republicans with her incompetence. And maverick, as it refers to Palin, is another way of saying that she's a backstabber.
Besides, do you really think she can make it until 2012 without some sort of massive fuck up that would basically nix her chances for nomination?

Since the Republicans will stop being a national party in 2008 and will contract into a few sparsely populated states, Sarah Palin will very likely become their leader. For what it's worth. And what it is worth is a thousand laughs, a million lovely new pratfalls. It's not as if her base is going away, and it's not as if they're getting any smarter.

I suppose on the national stage the power split will be between two or three enlightened factions, not unlike Europe. And that will galvanize Palin's hordes like nothing else, no matter how hopeless their cause.
