He had options, none of which he took because he was an old, mentally ill man, at the end of his rope. People with those kinds of problems do drastic things. The only evidence to support the supposition that he was suicidal is that he had no hope. Yet in fact, there was hope, and he did in fact have a place to go, and he did in fact have people to help him. So for you to insist that he had no future is for you to ignore reality, and for you to then pretend that he was willing to ignore reality with you.

If you had first proven that he was insane, then you could support the claim that he ignored reality, but that would be begging the question.

You haven't proven him insane, and if he was sane then he was aware that there was hope for the future. Therefore, nothing supports the assertion that he was suicidal.
