it was a great film, but predictably he went all soft glove on israel. no word on nutty settlers who use religion as a means to justify their presence in palestine. he pointed only one wall and not the other. other than that, it was a great film. i want to go to that jesus land nutty amusement park.

I also saw this film yesterday. And even though I really enjoyed the Michael Moore-esque ambush-style documentary (esp. when making fools out of fanatics and United States Senators), but I honestly did not like how the film climaxed with the anti-religious diatribe at the end. I agree that religion should be kept far away from government, and that organized religion has caused major atrocities over the millenia. However, I don't agree that non-religious folks should war against the crazies. War is never the answer. I left the theater with a bad taste in my mouth.

As an atheist, I thought it was funny. I didn't really learn anything new, the religion apologists in the film gave the same faith based answers and explanations for things that have no way of being proved true or not true.

Prediction: People who base their life on religion will hate this film. People who do not base their life on religion will find it funny.

I might see it, but I'm not jumping out of my chair to buy tickets.

it was funny & horrifying. i felt a bit sorry for all the small fish - the truckers, the jesus actor, the sabbath-avoiding inventor. but for the evil fucks in the film - the lying imam, the ex-gay pastor, the former blue note pastor who doesn't know the new testament, no empathy.

the 2 hilarious roman catholic priests demonstrated that the church is about the last bastion of quasi-reason left in christianity. the lutherans & episcopalians are ok, too. i guess.

@4 Maher is (was?) extremely pro-Israel, painfully so. I heard ok things about the movie and I'm interested in the subject but I can't stand Maher or his pseudo-libertarian extremely white views.

The movie failed. Save your money.

I'm struggling to hang on to what little optimism I have left, so I'll probably skip this one, at least for now.

As Jews it is our duty to see this film about the Christian idiots. The film's director is an Orthodox obervant Jew like Sacha Baron Cohen.

Israel is not religious. It is a nation founded on the truth of Torah, and the Israeli settlers have been given the Arabs land by G-d. Judaism is a religion based on truth.

Islam and Christianity are lies for children and idiots. This is a good film because it shows how Judaism is a much better, much more rational religion that Christianity or Islam.

GRRR...I was really looking forward to seeing this, and then Friday came along and none of the theaters in the lovely Tri-City area are showing it. And after searching, I can't seem to find a theater anywhere remotely close to me showing it...not even Hermiston, OR. Figures. Damn Eastern Washington. Any ideas?

Bill Maher may tick me off now and again, but he's right on the money with this one. Attaboy, Bill.

@16, before you blow your load of shit maybe you should understand the Cult of Personality, IE worship the leader, which is exactly what Stalin, Mao, Hitler and others have done. They maniputlate the theocratic desire of their populations and put the focus of worship on their dictatorship instead of another god. Ultimately, the controlled in part by forcing idol worship on their people.

Awful, awful, awful, awful, AWFUL movie. Intellectually dishonest, infuriatingly smug, nothing but Maher performing fellatio on himself for 90 minutes. It is no challenge to religion at all to find some dingbat from the Sheboygan Church of Dingbattery and crack jokes at him without letting him get a word in. Maher doesn't have the comedic chops of a Carlin or even a Lewis Black, and he doesn't have the guts to ask an actual theologian the same questions he asks Joe Dumbfuck-on-the-Street. A real theologian would have slaughtered him, you understand? SLAUGHTERED him. This is a movie for the only the most intellectually vacant of atheists -- I don't know how any thinking human being can come away from this movie believing that Bill Maher isn't a terrible human being. Fuck this movie, fuck you too.

I think you really have to like Bill Maher's style to like this movie. Yes, there was a LOT of spin, but come on... it was all true. Most religion bombard you with dogma and make you believe their way is the ONLY way.

If you don't like Bill Maher's comedy, of course you won't like the movie, but just think of what Bill Maher could have done with a movie about very small Mexican dogs ...

No, I don't like Maher's style of comedy. The question is, why do YOU like Maher's style of comedy? I don't think it's in question that this is the cheapest and most cowardly way to make a movie like this. Ben Stein's Expelled is an indefensible movie, but I tell you what, man, Stein took the fight right to Richard Dawkins and Maher doesn't have the balls to talk to any experts on the opposite side. He doesn't even talk to any experts on his own side, he's too busy worshipping at the shrine of Maher. It's a VH1-style snarkfest for the self-absorbed and the dim.

I appreciate what Michael Moore does so much more after seeing this movie. How big an asshole do you have to be to include footage of a woman who thought God told her to kill her children, and then play a jokey pop song over it? Geez.

Any media that exposes the idiot Christians is good media. That is why the director of Religulous, the ultra orthodox Jew Larry Charles has done the world a service with this film.

As Jews we must expose Islam and Christianity as cults for idiots. Only Judaism is the true religion, and Israel is a g-ds true nation whose lands have all been given to us as Jews. It is birthright.

Christians are born to nothing but ignorance and stupidity, that is what the excellent documentary Religulous proves.

Maher wasn't advocating war against the crazies by me, he was begging everyone to open their eyes and stop believing in superstition, and that atheists like me must speak up. Otherwise, the crazies will end of destroying everything. THAT was his point.

The movie was great - funny, smart, well-produced. Maher and Larry Charles are advocating no religion, not a certain religion, as Issur seems to be suggesting above. I don't know what movie he was watching. Anyway, even if you have some form of religious faith that you follow, it is worth seeing this movie - if to simply make you think about some things.
