I'll be on KUOW's Weekday this morning, discussing local levies and who's voting for them, bachelor degrees and who in the 8th District congressional race has mischaracterized them, the election and who might or might not steal it, plus lots of other news from this eventful week. 94.9 FM if you want to listen. Anything else we must discuss? UPDATE: For those of you griping about my Burner-Reichert coverage in the comments... You'll want to listen to this show. I'm running out the door to head to the studio right now, so I don't have time now to post what...

The Seattle Times' political agenda and how it will/will not impact the race...more interestingly, though, how the Times has handled being busted on their clumsily obvious and unequal slant on Burner/Reichert.

Well, I would be curious to hear whether the Stranger has withdrawn its endorsement of Burner and instead chosen Reichert. It's a reasonable assumption given YOUR clumsily obvious and unequal slant on Burner/Reichert, Eli.

Comment by Levislade

Re: the levies . . . can you perhaps clarify for people who might be as dumb as me that the actual amounts of the additional taxes from each levy are $.10 and $.19 per $1000 respectively (or whatever they are), and not $2.60 per $1000? (The latter figure, of course, is the limit of total overall taxation.)

The wording on the ballot and in the voting guide was very confusing to me, my wife and our roommate (making it sound as if the limit on each levy was $2.60 per $1000, which is a shitload), and I can't imagine we're the only ones.

Comment by Donna Summer

Someone found a letter you wrote me, on the radio
And they told the world just how you felt
It must have fallen out of a hole in your old brown overcoat
They never said your name
But I knew just who they meant.

Oh, I was so surprised and shocked, and I wondered too
If by change you heard it for yourself
I never told a soul just how Ive been feeling about you
But they said it really loud
They said it on the air
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh now, now

Dont it kinda strike you sad when you hear our song
Things are not the same since we broke up last june
The only thing that I wanna hear is that you love me still
And that you think youll be comin home real soon
Whoa oh yeah yeah
And it made me feel proud when I heard you say
You couldnt find the words to say it yourself
And now in my heart I know I can say what I really feel
cause they said it really loud
They said it on the air
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio

If you think that love isnt found on the radio
Well tune right in you made find the love you lost
cause now Im sitting here with the man I sent away long ago
It sounded really loud they said it really loud
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio whoa oh oh
On the radio, radio, radio (fade)

Comment by Reverse Polarity

Eugene @2,

The difference is that the Seattle Times claims to be unbiased. That their reporters are completely objective (or at least their goal is pure objectivity). The Stranger, on the other hand, makes no such claim. The Stranger has always had a progressive bias, and they have always been quite open about their bias. And even with their admitted and public bias, The Stranger at least strives not to publish outright lies.

If the Seattle Times claims objectivity and balance and not having a bias, then it is absolutely fair to call them on it when they publish a highly inflammatory, biased story fed to them from Burner's opponent without doing even a minimum of fact checking. It would take 10 minutes to call Burner's university and verify whether the claim was true or not. Even with the Stranger's bias, I would think they would at least do that much fact checking if fed a similar story. That the Times didn't bother is at best irresponsibly sloppy, and at worst a blatant attempt to sway voters with a patent lie.
