Charles,

It's called "speciesist imperialism." Look what us crazy humans have done to those poor primates!

Put a thousand monkeys on a thousand typewriters, and sooner or later one of them will figure out how to blow Paul Constant.

I'm not sure how, but this can't be quite right - because I saw that picture last year. A friend made a joke photo album on Facebook where he tagged pictures of animals as his friends, and tagged this exact picture as me and my boyfriend, with the lurking gorilla nearby tagged as my boyfriend's roommate. This was definitely months ago, probably in the winter or late fall.

This officially takes the cake in regards to how fucking ridiculous Charles is.

Looks like a heavily-Photoshopped Far Side cartoon. Betcha Leah's got the rhinestone glasses on.

@5

The article that Chuckles linked to kicks off with this:

ScienceDaily (Feb. 13, 2008)

That may provide some clarity.

Ah, I realize what the problem is: this isn't "news," that article was published in February. I just double-checked, and my friend posted the photo in, yes, February, when this actually broke.

You should read up on bonobos. They do it every which way face-to-face, oral, girl-ape-on-girl-ape, the works.

Definitely, I think, cultural pollution is a possibility. This kind of thing happens all the time with crows, so why not gorillas?

People whose brains are wired a certain way (Ayn Randians? Frat boys? I don't know) get angry when you mention gorillas. It's because gorillas are vegetarians in spite of having large, pointy teeth. This gives them fits, and provokes them to spew bile. Hence the non sequiturs in the comments.

elenchos, by that measure of pointy teeth, are tyrannosaurus vegetarians? are you a young earth creationist now?

I thought i'd poke fun at the equatist notion that there are many pointy teethed vegetarians would give credence to creationist flim flam.

Oh Charles, you dropped the ball on this one...

Where is the obvious suggestion that they saw humans doing it and mimic the action thanks to Mirror Neurons?

Never pass up a chance to do a little self-promotion.
