I'll call her a bitch whenever I want. And a cunt. And a whore. With or without her comments on Obama and/or America. I don't like her, she's in politics, therefore I have this rite. She signed up for it. Loooooong time ago.

I love this. And I think it's totally real.

Reminds me of my girlfriend's grandmother. 76 year old broad from Buffalo. Drinks, swears, and loathes the GOP. She blasted past calling Palin a bitch about 2 months ago.

It's called being the better person.

Those were my exact thoughts when I first ran across them. I hope they're the real thing--it would be so lovely. :-)

that blog is awesome ... thanks for "discovering" it for all of us

I really hope it is real. She makes me think of my Great Aunt who died a couple of years ago. My Great Aunt would invite you over for pie and coffee and then start ranting about the Republicans. It was a thing of beauty.
Over ninety years old but still a hard-core old school democrat to the very end.

It probably is real.

The Red Socialists in the Socialist Republican party bear no resemblance to conservatives up until sometime in the 80s.

I read a decent bit of this blog today, and I think they're real. There's really no reason for them not to be real. Old ladies for Obama isn't really a high concept; there are TONS of them. Such as my mom.

Also, Helen does most or all of the blogging. If this were a hoax then Margaret would do her share, and have an amusing persona distinct from Helen's, etc. etc. This really seems real, in all kinds of ways.

She sounds like my Ma and my Aunties...well, not the Jesus Freak Auntie, but the rest of 'em.

Hmmm.. guess I get to be the first one to cast a vote for the "not real" side of things. Something about the writing doesn't ring true to me. I agree with pretty much all of the words, and it's somewhat humorous.. but it all sounds like someone much, much younger than the supposed Margaret and Helen. Helen Philpot? Really? That just sounds too made up. But it's the writing style that gives it away for me. I just can't tell if it's a 35 year old or a 45 year old.. and it's flip a coin as to whether it's a female or male. Can I place any bet on this over at iTrade or whatever it is?

She says in the FAQ that Philpot isn't her real last name. But I agree that the tone sounds suspiciously young... however, maybe she's just a young octogenarian!

I think it is real. Old doesn't mean out of touch. My grandma is 87, and sadly has Alzheimer's, but before that horrible disease took her mind, she was old school hardcore Democrat. She HATED everthing the Republicans stood for, and would swear and curse them like a sailor. Besides, I hear conservative people my age (35) who sound as if they wish they were living in the McCarthy 50s. Political views don't belong to any one age group. I think most people who were liberal when young, are still liberal when old, while those who were conservatives when young are conservatives when old

My wife's ex-boyfriend's last name is Philpot. It's a real name. I don't know for sure if they're real - but I see no reason to question it until it's proven otherwise. They're just too much fun to ruin worrying about it.

And does anyone seriously think that Ann Richards wouldn't have been capable of something like this? Just read it with her voice in your head and it all makes a lot of sense.

if my mom wasn't so computer-phobic (she uses a MANUAL typewriter), she'd probably have a blog like this. i love it!

They're for real. I think their blog even has an FAQ. I found this blog through Jezebel and I'm a total fan. Tell it like it is, ladies!

I would welcome being proven wrong, but after reading about an entry and a half, I get a strong "fake" vibe. It's too youthful. Old doesn't mean out of touch, certainly. But this is not an octogenarian voice. And it struck me several times as someone much younger trying to sound 80 (hoo-hah?!). I vote fake.

Reminds me of Margaret Cho: "I don't WANT to rise above it. I WANT to sink to their level." TAWANDA!!!

I wish it was otherwise, but it strikes me as totally fake.

I vote for "real". In fact, she sounds just like my neighbor across the street when I lived on Queen Anne Hill. She was 80, had been born in Nevada, used terms like hoo-hah, and liked her little tot (but always in a tea cup). Took no prisoners, in fact. Just like this lady. Thanks for pointing me/us to her/them.

I'm older and have silver hair, and you people who doubt it's real because you don't have the imagination to get beyond ignorant stereotypes about older people can kiss my fucking ass. You don't become a totally different person because you've aged - if you started out conservative, you stay conservative, if you started out a mouthy liberal, you stay a mouthy liberal.

My dear departed grandma still called Ronald Reagan "That son-of-a-bitch Reegan" right before she passed away in her early 80's.

At least she didn't live to see the second Bush Administration.

I could totally see Betty White writing something like this. I choose to believe it's legit. :)
