Sarah Palin’s Lesbian Friend

posted by on October 1 at 12:23 PM

Sarah Palin claimed to have gay friends when she ran for governor of Alaska in 2006. Gay bloggers and reporters have attempted to locate Palin’s allegedly gay alleged friends in the weeks since John McCain selected her as his running mate. No luck. So last week I offered to be Sarah Palin’s gay friend because, hey, everybody should have at least one—and Palin’s kids clearly need an adult around who knows something about birth control.

Well, guess what? Someone claiming to be one of Sarah Palin’s gay friends—an Alaskan!—saw my post and got in touch via email. It’s not the lesbian friend Sarah Palin mentioned in her interview with Katie Couric—an interview in which Palin asserted that homosexuality is a choice—but an openly gay man. Now before we get to my interview with Sarah Palin’s gay friend, here’s Palin talking about her lesbian friend…

“As for homosexuality, I am not going to judge Americans and the decisions that they make in their adult personal relationships. I have… one of my best friends for the last 30 years happens to be gay and I love her dearly. She’s not my gay friend, she is one of my best friends who happens to have made a choice that isn’t a choice that I have made. But I’m not going to judge people.”

Well, well. Palin’s lesbian friend made a choice that Palin herself could have made but didn’t. Which means, it would appear, that Palin doesn’t just believe lesbianism is a choice but heterosexuality as well. Good to know.

And while Palin isn’t going to judge her lesbian friend for the choices she’s made about her “adult personal relationships,” Palin is going to do what she can to deny her lesbian friend the right to marry. Palin also wants to make sure her lesbian friend can’t serve openly in the military, she doesn’t want her lesbian friend protected by hate crimes statutes, and she thinks employers should be able to fire her lesbian friend just because she’s a lesbian. And if Palin’s lesbian friend were to fall in love with a lovely Russian lesbian that she could see from Alaska—and enter into an adult personal relationship with that Russian—Sarah Palin doesn’t think her lesbian friend’s lover should be able to emigrate to the United States.

But, hey, at least Sarah Palin refuses to judge her lesbian friend—and that’s something, right? It’s not equality or fairness or respect or full enfranchisement, of course, but it’s… um… something.

Right?

Adult personal relationship = chicks eating pussy/dudes taking it in the ass.

I just love the "some of my best friends are ___" arguement.

Some of my best friends believe in God. They aren't my religious friends, they just happen to have made a choice that isn't a choice that I have made.

Enough with the suspense!

I sure hope this isn't an "anonymous" source...

I was on the receiving end of a "some of my best friends..." logic this weekend. I'm so proud I kept it together, especially when Ms. Middle Class White Girl told me I'm not "really" Mexican because I didn't grow up in the hood.

Figured it'd be bad to punch my cousin's future in-law three weeks before the wedding.

So, Palin has chosen to stay in the closet? That is what she is saying, right?

Oh sure, when you say it, you make it sound stupid.

With friends like her, who needs enemies?

I thought the whole point of calling homosexuality a choice was so you could judge people for it?

Of course it's a choice. Bagel or toast, bacon or sausage, coffee or tea, blonde or brunette, cock or pussy. Right? Right? What? Oh, yeah, redheads. Mmm.

I like to ask them how much I would have to pay them to choose gay, even for an hour. Most people haven't really thought about it much, they just accept what they hear in their peer group. The Christian Fear Brigade spends a lot of energy trying to sweeten their message, which is strictly from fear, not any kind of Jesus. Sarah Palin is a classic case of that kind of unthinkingness.

So, if it's a choice, then Sarah Palin could just have easily have chosen to be gay. There would be no difference, in her mind, between having sex with a man and having sex with a woman (she was born with an equal attraction to both men and women). She just happened to choose to be straight.

I like Fnarf's response of, if it's a choice and it makes not difference, how much would I have to pay you to have sex with someone of the same sex. I think I'll be appropriating that one...

Presumably Palin thinks that employers should also be able to fire her friends just because they're straight, and that her straight friends also shouldn't be protected by hate crimes statutes. Quite prossilby she also thinks that straight relationships shouldn't be grounds for emmigration, but things like professional skills, cultural compatibility, and a willingness to buy a green card at auction.

On the military and marriage issues, you can call her inconsistent, but not on the others.

So you guys all CHOSE to be gay? Wow, that was a pretty dumb thing to do. Why don't you all just choose to be straight from now on and we can drop this whole gay marriage issue.

hey, she said she doesn't judge, right?

of course, her CHURCH judges, but she doesn't REALLY believe that crap - she just goes because she needs the votes.

Try to keep up, Max. It's not HER church. She said so. She just goes there every week.

what flamingbanjo is pointing out that once people believe that it's just a matter of choice, then they always judge people for making the wrong choice.and that's they always argue that it's a choice. for them being gay isn't a viable choice. it's barely a tolerable choice. it's always the wrong choice. always, always, always.

Palin is a throwback to the fifties, when people reproduced like rabbits. There should be a limit to how many kids people have. It's incontinence to have more than two.
But the white folks need to keep their numbers up...

@19 ... careful here. The largest average families are found among Hispanics, with a mean family size of 3.87, versus a mean of 3.19 for all other groups. Advocating a cap on how many children one can have might bring La Raza down on you.

I think that Palin had a friend back in high school who she later found out was gay. Never dealt with her again, and yet this "best friend of thirty years" has somehow come through to be Palin's gay savior. Give me a break, bitch.

Since you can't find her lesbian friend in Alaska that automatically means that one doesn't exist??? What planet are you from and when did you last actually go to Alaska? Oh, never, that's right but you can't possibly be wrong. Got it.(Sarcasm)

do you know that when you accuse someone of being racist, homophobic and you get the response that ' i cant be that some of my best freinds are' then that is a clear sign admission.. i mean if your best freind is then how can you use that language..
something i learned as a white teen in a black school when i asked how can you tell when its real descrimination.
