She was asked about her Achilles' Heel; she obviously didn't know what that meant, she just started ranting about - I don't even know! I think this was better than a Palin melt-down, because that's already happened, and it might not have helped to repeat it. This way Biden had everyone watching for 90 mins while he pretty much systematically answered all of the McCain publicity points. So Palin showed she's not such an incompetent parrot, while Biden had lots of very valuable airtime to really drive home the differences between Obama and McCain.
The Republicans made a bad decision to play Sarah as populist vs. Biden. He just exudes populism, but with a battle-weary wisdom I think will appeal to some of the older middle-of-the-road crowd.
