TV Leeanimal Mauls the Competition

onSpoiler alert!: This post comes without a spoiler alert. Last night on Project Runway, adorable Portland hipster-dork Leanne Marshall fulfilled the wishes of the masses and won.
Unfortunately, this meant the also-awesome Korto had to lose, a fate to which she kinda seemed resigned. (That “I’m not just a designer, I’m a mommy!” crap is for losers.)
Also, it should be remembered that three days after the self-inflated bag of gas known as Jennifer Lopez ditched out of being the PR finale guest judge due to a foot injury, she completed the Malibu Triathlon.

I was rooting for Korto (even though I have a pervy old-man nerd crush on Leanne), but it was apparent that Leanne was going to win. From the detailed photo review of the collections that appeared a month ago, after the actual runway show, I thought Korto had it in the bag, but last night Leanne's collection was simply better. Though Leanne is in fact a bit of a one-note, with the noodle-noodle-noodle. But: well done, Portland Girl.
I'm glad that J-Lo didn't participate. I'm not a fan.
I was hoping for a tie or something, cos I wanted both of them to win so bad.
I was hoping Korto would win. Alas...
I guess I was the only member of Team Kenley.
Not having a TV I find this fascination with other peoples' seemingly charmed lives the last domain of the loser population of America. This is about ephemera, cotton candy for the mind, living life through other's success while you have nothing to show for your own life. One can only hope living with less material crap, as shall soon happen given the economy, Americans will strive to start living more.
Now maybe Leeeeeannnnnna can afford someone to do HER hair and makeup. Please?
5: Well, yeah, maybe, but there are a bazillion more garish examples than Project Runway, which traffics in creation, not debasement.
What David said.
I'm SO glad Kenley lost- She can claim ignorance all she wants, but her plagiarization of other designers works happened multiple times this season:

Schmader, do you ENJOY ruining things for those of us who DVR'ed last night's show?!? God damn it. My wife told me that Yahoo had the winner on the front page, so I've been avoiding Yahoo all day.
I wonder if the outcome would have been different with J-lo as a judge. I'd think she'd lean more towards Korto.
Still, I'm very happy that Portland Girl won. She also deserves an award for taking Tim Gunn on a bicycle built for two.
ps- I had a pervy not-so-old man crush on Kenley. Naughty girls need love, too.
i [heart] when people say they don't have a TV. best self-righteous non-sequitur ever!
Seriously. Way to be a dick. Luckily someone in the office spoiled it for me already.
Her: Did you watch last night?
Me: Of course!
Her: I can't believe Korto didn't win.
Me: I thought you meant the debate.
Her: Oops!
I really wanted Korto to win too. And actually I liked her overall collection better than Leanne's one trick over and over again. She did a great job but I was bored after the 4th girl walked out on the runway. I thought even the pieces of Korto's that I didn't like as much were more interesting.
But I'm definately not bitter that Leanne won. She's got talent and I like her, she's funny. But Jesus H., someone give that girl a makeover!
I was a Korto fan, but I loved Leanne's collection. I'm currently sitting in an aqua-and-cream room, a palette that I've been obsessed with since last spring, so I was pretty delighted to see what she had done.
The thing is, my real-life curvy-girl body would look great in Korto's clothes. I could never wear anything by Leanne. I appreciate couture, I like the art of fashion, but I also like actual clothes that make me look hot. So. They were both winners in my eyes, for different reasons.
Makeover mavens - settle down. Leanne knows perfectly well what look she is rocking.
@7
Yeah, Project Runway is the only non-Comedy-Central TV that I watch (well, download) these days. Because I truly appreciate the creativity.
I've come to believe that wisdom and maturity are all about moving away from black-and-white towards shades of grey. TV is mostly crap. But it's not all crap.
Sorry, wounded spoiler-alerters: Once I saw Leanne holding court on the Today show I figured all spoiling bets were off. (If it's any consolation, I got the ending spoiled for me by a blabby east-coaster participating in the debate live slog.)
Yeah, because parenting is so easy.
Dick.
@4 - no, me too. but leanne deserved to win.
20: Uh, yeah, that's the point I was making. Nothing is easier than parenting.
If I got the sense you watched the show and had a brain, I'd explain myself, but I don't, so I won't.
I had it ruined on the "And the Snap Polls Say" thread from last night by some asshole anonymous Slogger, so I am not mad at Schmader for spoiling. I knew there was a risk of spoiling when I chose to watch the debate instead of PR (they were on at the same time here), but it's going to be a bummer watching it without any suspense.
@19, me too, and I was PISSED. Before the show has aired on the West Coast = spoiling. After? Not.
Thanks for throwing in those couple of "thank god the-other-contestants won!" in last night's LiveSlog, though, David. It at least helped me keep a little bit of suspension of disbelief.
I agree that Leanne deserved the win, even if the petal shape got old for me. I'm much more drawn personally to Korto's clothes and would be WAY more likely to actually wear them, but I can see how she wasn't necessarily bringing something new to the industry.
I actually detested Kenley's entire collection, pretty much, so if she was copying other designers she needs to get better at it... or I just have no taste.
@23:
Yeah, that person pissed me off. People who go out of their way to be assholes kinda mystify me. I mean. . . why?
I'm not a big J-Lo fan, but I am a fan of accuracy. She may have done the triathlon last weekend, but the actual runway show was a month ago. Still lame, yes, but it was longer than the 3 days you mention.
The J-Lo confusion may have arisen from the dates on those stories -- the 12th and the 15th. But the US magazine story was SEPTEMBER 12.
Re: the point brought up at 7: PR is one of the rare reality competition shows where contestants gain nothing from undermining each other or being enemies. It's about making art, not eating bugs, and I think this is part of the reason for the backlash against poor old Kenley, who came on in the total "I'm not herre to make friends" mode, when everyone else was like, "But this is the show where you're ALLOWED to make friends!" PR contestants are all in the same boat of trying to express themselves in a way they hope will be pleasing to the judges, and Kenley's antagonistic attitude stuck out like a sore corpse.
I purposely avoided Slog once the debate was over last night, for the very reasons stated here.
Loved how Heidi had a dig at J-Lo on the runway, I remember how pissed she was in the press when it went down. Wish both Korto and Leeann could have won, both had beautiful collections.
I almost felt sorry for Kenley last night, she looked so shocked when she lost. I hope she learned some lessons from PR about being nice, and paying attention to those around her.
Yes Idaho, you are incorrect. Both the runway show AND the triathalon were over a month ago.
The word on the street it that J-Lo snubbed the runway show because the Weinsteins denied her a movie role she thought was hers.
Interesting point David @ 29
who knew that J-Lo had some pride?
Leanne's adaptation of her petal style across a full season, then a full collection at the finale, put me in mind of the knockout Marii pleating Mary McFadden started to throw around so beautifully waybackwhen. Drool.
I wonder why they didn't do a reunion show this season?
Korto was robbed.
@31 -- Oh. My bad. J-Lo's a wench.
bull
shit
Leanne didn't have any floppy petals during the entire season or in any of her past collections. She had some noodles and pleats, but that's it. Her finale collection had a lot of petals because it was, um, a coherent collection.

I hate reality television with an intense passion, yet just recently got sucked into this show by my roommate. I really do appreciate the creativity, it's inspiring.
I thought Leanne deserved to win. Maybe the goal isn't to have a cohesive collection in this particular arena, but cohesion is something every artist struggles with (how many openings have you been to where no ideas were presented, and you find yourself looking at a "well, this is what I've been up to this year" exhibit?), and I though individually her pieces were great, as was the overall connection between them. I actually really like her personal style, as well.
Jennifer Lopez would have brought the show down a few notches, IMO. She's a pop star, not an artist. Glad she didn't show.
Who knew that cohesion meant doing the exact same thing over and over again?
@41
It's not the "exact same thing", it's the thorough exploration of an IDEA, which is what a collection should be.
@42
Fair enough. I guess I just feel that the idea wasn't all that original, and the clothes, while well crafted, weren't that visually appealing.
This is the time since season 1 that I am not satisfied with the winner.
The Australian and Canadian versions of Project Runway are pretty damn good (the Aussie one especially) and well worth torrenting.
Avoid Project Catwalk (the UK version) like the plague though - it's Big Brother with some fashion stuff tacked on as an afterthought.
I haven't been able to find a subbed copy of Designerspierren (the Norwegian? version) so I can't judge that series.
Yay! Now she can finally wash her hair!
I heart Korto. It is also my firm belief that Leann's use of the same repetitive noodling patterns indicate future mental illness. So there.
Korto's collection was hands-down better than Leanne's. I was SO bored by her almost colorless palette and wave crap (all of those pleats made the models look like they had saggy asses ... didn't the judges *NOTICE* that?).
FEH
