I Need a Bar and a TV, Stat!

posted by on October 29 at 15:31 PM

Slog Tipper Melissa asks:

Do you know if any bars are showing the Obama infomercial and/or Daily Show tonight?

Why no, Melissa, I don’t know. But I’m in your no-TV boat too, and I’d be interested to find out.

Does anyone know of a bar that’s showing the politics tonight?

You can watch The Daily Show tomorrow at http://www.thedailyshow.com

I'd be amazed if the Obama campaign didn't have the infomercial online later on tonight.

I'm confused about the timing of the Obama infomercial. Is it live on the west coast at 5pm, or taped for 8pm?

are you sure you want to waste 30 minutes of your life you'll never get back? Kinda like the 1 minute I'll never get back for posting this....

Well the Obama-mercial is going to be on right before the World Series game tonight so just go to a bar that is showing the WS game and watch it there. The commercial is actually slated to take the place of the pre-game so it's not like people will complain (plus, it's Seattle. This isn't a super hardcore baseball town anyway.)

The PI TV guide says the Obama ad is on at 8pm here in Seattle, not at 5 before the game. Brian, what say you to that?

I say it is all lies and chicanery.

I never know how "live" shit is going to pan out on the west coast. It seems like the live factor of this thing isn't really important but the address Obama is giving at the conclusion of the commercial is supposed to be live from Florida so I figured they'd want people to see it across the nation as it happens.

In any case: I don't care because I'm not some pleeb. I own a tv and I'm able to take a shower every day. And if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go swim in my comically gigantic money bin full of gold coins.

do you really not know how to get a bar to put this on, or did you just want to gloat about not having a tv?

Karma in Belltown said they'd put it on.

@7 - For one of the debates, I ran around frantically all over Belltown. Most bars weren't interested in turning off the music or the game for the debates, and more than a couple didn't have sound for the TV at all. I finally settled into the overcrowded Spitfire, but I doubt they have the Daily Show.

You'd think some bar in town would want to market itself to lefties without a TV. There are lots of us around, and besides, it would be great to catch the Daily Show and Colbert Report nightly while drinking a beer with friends.

Spitfire will probably have it on a TV or two.

Is it on ESPN or Fox Sports? No? Then no.

but not having a TV makes you smart. and helpless.

I don't have a TV because I haven't found anyone to provide service that I can afford. I'll try with the rabbit ears...

I'd also rather spend the money at a bar.

Oh--and @#12: fuck off. I'm smart with or without a TV, and I'm certainly not helpless.

I simply like to choose how I spend my money.

I think "I don't have a TV" is an outdated sentiment. I technically don't have a TV, but I watch the Daily Show, Family Guy, and the Simpsons on Hulu regularly. The Obama campaign should really be streaming this through their website or Hulu or something.
