As the Central District News reports, Seattle City Light described the outage as stretching from Pine St to Main St (north-south) and from 24th Ave to 12th Ave (east-west). After wandering out to the street to check out what was going on (not helpful), I went back in, got out a flashlight, and did my best to get dressed and ready to go in the half light. (Applying eyeliner by flashlight-- good times.) When I got home at midnight, I slipped into bed in the velvet dark quiet and slept a wonderful sleep until about 6:30 a.m., when I noticed that the power was back on and therefore I would be able to proceed with my pancake party plans. It was nice, actually. I like the simplicity of blackouts. Glad to have the CD News Blog to find out the whys and whats.

After dinner we enjoyed Scrabble by candle light and using the last of the laptop's battery to watch a DVD before bed. Kind of made for a nice Saturday night, actually.

The outage occurred directly in front of my apartment, so by the time I got home from my 10-hour rehearsal at about 10:30 p.m. the City Light crews had already taken over the entire street. Parking down the block wasn't such an imposition, but when they started in with the Harley-powered tree saws at about 2:30 a.m. (and which in fact didn't stop until around 4:00 a.m.), I knew my Sunday "10-out-of-12" rehearsal was going to be a very long one.

BTW, I don't know where you got the "power restored by 3:00 a.m." information, but as of 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, they were still stringing line in front of my house, and apparently we didn't get power back on my part of 22nd, until mid-day.

I think we missed totally losing power by one block. The way the wind is blowing now though, I wouldn't be surprised if it goes out again. Seems we always lose power around here.
