GOP Group Depicts Obama With Watermelon, Ribs

Diane Fedele, president of the group [Chaffey Community Republican Women], said she had no racist intent.

“I never connected,” she told the newspaper. “It was just food to me.

Stay classy, San Bernardino County Republicans!

UPDATE: But wait, there’s more.

The October newsletter by the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated says if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps — instead of dollar bills like other presidents. The statement is followed by an illustration of “Obama Bucks” — a phony $10 bill featuring Obama’s face on a donkey’s body, labeled “United States Food Stamps.”

From the Riverside Press-Enterprise.

A note to those in the area from the Chaffey Community RWF: “Our meetings are held the 4th Wednesday evening of each month at the Magic Lamp Inn, 8189 Foothill Blvd., Rancho Cucamonga. Guests are always welcome.

Thanks to Slog tippers Jayme and Reggie.

Yeah, it's just a total coincidence that the food was fried chicken, ribs, and watermelon. Right.

and well, he DOESN'T look like any the other presidents... so what was so outrageous about that statement, that you were inspired to such lows, Diane? You racist pig fucker!!

Fried chicken, too. I can't IMAGINE what they were getting at.

It will all get a lot worse when Obama is President of Our United States

They have to kinda keep it under wraps for now, but oh boy when there isn't an election to lose? Watch out for the stereotypes

I just had brisket for lunch at Pete's BBQ.

Yum.

I also buy collard greens at Carpinto Bros. market.

Double Yum. I boil them in chicken broth.

Do you want a picture of me doing that?

I hope all of these stupid fucking stereotypes get as much play as possible.

So much play, that they become as played out and stupid as they should already be. Hopefully, then they will go away.

Alternatively, I hope that the racist jerks who perpetrate these stereotypes die, quickly.

Humans suck.

Food stamps are so horrible. How dare the government make sure families with children don't starve. For shame!

Way it reads, it's possible that this Diane Fedele woman might really have been clueless about the significance of the food items in the picture. The picture's main focus was the ten dollar bill, and, well, if she doesn't have a lot of black friends who can joke with her about ancient stereotypes (I mean, who talks about watermelon these days? And how is that negative anymore???) then she really might've just been making fun of Obama on a non-racist level.

Of course there's loads of Republican racists out there (especially the guy/girl who made the illustration in the first place). Just think Ms Fedele gets the benefit of the doubt.

Um, bullshit, Ng. You don't go three-for-three by accident.

Racist sleepwalking.
“I never connected,” she told the newspaper. “It was just food to me.”

what about taking some goddamn responsibility for being so fucking insensitive and racist? what a motherfucking liar. My judgement is that she knew exactly what she was doing, she's done it before and will continue.

If it was "just food," then why the hell was there any food to begin with? Last time I checked, most dollar bills don't include images of George Washington eating.

Shockingly, the Magic Lamp Inn serves neither fried chicken, ribs, or watermelon. So the mystery of why exactly those items appeared in the illustration, as opposed to, say, Cobb Salad or Medallion of Beef Oscar, remains unsolved.

Well, c'mon, you would have to be a blind right winger(redundant) to not see black people have WAY more class than Republicans could ever hope to have.

"Just food"? Why not chard with mayonnaise, then? Or how 'bout white bread sandwiches with the crusts cut off?

Bullshit. You don't get a pass just because you're so racist you don't realize how racist you are (anymore than Palin gets a pass for not realizing just how stupid she is).

And Bailo, if I wanted a picture of a white bread dumbfuck I'm sure there are plenty available on the RNC's website.

...on that note, this reminds me of the Congress-cretin who actually was surprised when people were shocked at the blatant racism of calling Obama "uppity."

Could these racist morons at least have the goddamn common courtesy to use "dog-whistle" code language when they're giving vent to their bile?

Yes John, I would love a picture of you (with or without collard greens.) Please post one with your address and phone number soon.

Look, I can give her some benefit of the doubt. She didn't _create_ the image. She got it in an email and decided to use it. It would be ludicrous to argue that the person who created it didn't have serious racist intent - it's just that she's not that person. She most likely is just clueless.

I showed the article to a friend and he brought up this wonderful point. "It shows how out of touch the cartoonist is;
You can't buy KFC with food stamps." I would also like to add that food stamps now come in less time-consuming, less-degrading debit cards. I should know, I spent two years eating on food stamps.

@17 i still don't cut her any slack. her ignorance and stupidity are her problem, she needs a basic education. it's like using an image of a burning cross and saying you just thought it was a bonfire.

and i would love to see a picture of john bailo cooking himself a meal, and then another of him ducktaping his fingers together and his mouth shut.

San Bernardino County Republicans are balls to the wall, if nothing else. They were attempting to commit voter fraud just last month.

I went to the Magic Lamp Inn once. Not quite the classy joint that the Sycamore Inn across the street is, but I'm sure the increasingly-skewing-to-senior-citizen San Bernardino County Republicans like it, and it's just down the hill from the golf club.

Rancho Cucamonga ... what a shithole. It is the armpit of So Cal, and that says a lot.
