Have a Small Beer for Obama

posted by on October 28 at 12:00 PM

Small Beer Press, which is a small publisher I happen to adore, is donating 20% of the money they raise from an online sale to the Obama campaign.

Small Beer puts out really great stuff, including books by Kelly Link and Carol Emshwiller (author of the very great The Mount, which I wrote about here.) They range from McSweeney’s-ish fiction to science fiction to fantasy to horror and back again. Be sure to give a look at their website.

But, at seven days out, isn't the only thing that really makes an impact doorbelling? adverts tend not to have much impact ...

i thought campaigns were no longer allowed to take money?

Not to rain on your parade, but it's illegal for a business to donate to a campaign. Obama will probably turn their money down.

Seems like a pretty transparently craven way to make some sales, 7 days out.

Hi, thanks for the mention Paul!

We ran the sale from October 2nd and donated just under $700. We'll donate any further moneys to Obama if we can, if not, we can either return the donation part of the money, or donate it on to something else. As with Obama, we'll take the high road whatever our options are.

I donated the money to the campaign and don't think it was illegal as I am donating as an individual. If it's illegal to donate, I will write a personal check.

Cheers,

Gavin Grant

Oh, well in that case, Gavin can give even more - he isn't even close to maxing out.
