seriously....

Feminists should be chopped up in tubs filled with cum.

Dawn, not to be a liberal elite, but have you ever taken a contemporary history of art class in your life? Clearly not. So before you ruin my viewing experience with a close-minded comment, I suggest you, I don't know, pick up a book, or visit any contemporary art website, or explain what you meant by the comment, ok?

Jen: Thanks for the post. I missed WACK by one week when I visited LA and have lived vicariously through friends telling me about it from NY. I am overjoyed to have it so close to home and am planning my trip already!

Is there anything else that feels better in a whirlwind trip to the art museum in Vancouver than a leisurely walk through the art museum?

If it weren't for the fact that in relative terms of security and financial borders, as in as much outside of the creation and distribution of major thematic artist colonies the world over;

...the demends and the prescriptivism detailed and orientated display of causal effectualative co-entanglements included...

you might just have a system of artist support in an over affluent display of pandering political partyism that remains enthused with artifice to this very day.

@6,

One negative comment ruins your experience? Grow up.

Giving literal meaning to "She just pulled that shit out of her vagina" for contrived feminist actions.

Uh, I kinda have to agree with #4 on this one. I pull tampons out of my vagina every month; is that art? What exactly does qualify this as art? I think it's a legitimate question for those of us who don't study art, and aren't really interested in picking up a book on the subject. I'm really not getting the pile of laundry on the floor picture either. I mean, I could take a picture like that for every day of the week.

Nobody can claim this is not art.
It IS art.

It's just not very good art.

I'm kind of boggled by those of you who "don't get it." Feminism is a political viewpoint. Feminist art is an attempt to communicate aspects of that idea through artistic methods. Look at a piece and ask yourself "what is this telling me about feminism?" and if all you can glean from the work is that "it's ugly" or "nothing" and THAT doesn't tell you anything, then it's your loss.

@12, I'm kind of boggled by those of you that DO "get it." I mean, what's to get? If she had something to say, why didn't she just say it? What's the point of writing it down on paper and stuffing it in your twat, only to pull it back out and read it? What, exactly, is the statement here? That doesn't tell me anything about feminism. Why is it "powerful" or "womanly" to read a poem (or whatever the hell it is) that you pulled out of your vagina? Yeah, it's gonna get noticed and talked about, and I'm sure that's the point, but I guess I still don't know what it is that qualifies it as art. To each their own, but I just don't understand why people take things like this so seriously!

"Uh, I kinda have to agree with #4 on this one. I pull tampons out of my vagina every month; is that art? What exactly does qualify this as art?"

1. A frame
2. A declaration of intent

The "frame" lets the viewer know where the "art" begins and ends. It doesn't not have to be a literal frame. The declaration of intent lets the viewer differentiate between framed "art" and a frame propped up against the wall.

So, if you want to consider your tampons as "art" (you would not be the first, btw), pull one out, stick it on the wall and declare "BEHOLD! ART!", and soon too can be told you are worthless, please shut up, my five-year-old could do that, etc.

For fucks sake people. If you don't know art, and can't be bothered to pick up a fucking book, for fucks sake don't complain that you don't fucking "get" it, because you obviously don't give enough of a fuck to bother to try. You've obviously got the godshitting internet at the tip of your fucking fingers. Google it. Jesus.

Also, will someone please off DBK? He makes my brain twitch. I'm getting afraid to open the comments section.

21 X2.

anytime i see a jen graves post that gets more than 5 comments, i know the entire dialog before i even read them: someone doesn't get it; someone doesn't get why someone doesn't get it; someone offers up an algorithm for defining art (bonus points for pretention and/or excessive use of jargon); someone gets angry; the end.

I like the box one. The other ones involving vaginas seem like the scene from The Big Lebowski where Maude says "vagina". the seem like they are just there hoping to create a reaction that most anyone under the age of 50 would say "and?"

@20: I had no problem whatsoever interpreting the un-apostrophized "fucks sake" as an arch and witty literary/artistic statement.

If Spiderman's testicles took off on their own, and you shot them in freeze-frame photography, they'd look a lot like that first image. Maybe that could be a side effect of the Venom suit, that could be explored in the fourth movie...?

Jen,

I have been waiting on your review. Thanks so much. I didn't know about WACK! until you first posted about it on Slog. I went to the WACK! site to see if there was information about where it would be going next, but I didn't see any. Is there a way to find that out? I live very far away, but I would actually consider making the trip if this is its last stop or something. It would mean a great deal to my partner and me to see this.
