Republican Liddy Dole is the wife of Bob Dole—Dole was the John McCain of the ‘96 presidential election, for you youngsters—and a Senator from North Carolina. She’s up for reelection this year and she’s trailing in the polls. Dole’s Democratic opponent, Kay Hagan, is a Sunday school teacher and an elder in her Presbyterian church. So what does Dole accuse Hagan of being? Naturally Dole accuses Hagan of being a “godless American,” an atheist who’s taking “Godless money.” Hagan’s got a secret Godless agenda, says Dole.
Hagan, like a modern Democrat, hits back hard:
Furious about a new political ad in North Carolina that suggests she’s “godless,” state Sen. Kay Hagan said she’d seek a cease-and-desist order against U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole’s campaign if the television spot isn’t pulled in the next 24 hours…. Her campaign said they’d delivered letters to Dole’s Raleigh and Salisbury offices and her Washington, D.C., home giving the campaign 24 hours to pull the ad before they took legal recourse in court.
This is the sort of thing that we need see happen again and again. For every single deceitful attack that the Republicans launch, the Democrats need to forcefully refute all the lies with simple, plain spoken responses--backed by the force of law, as in this case. This is the sort of nonsense that they're down to. Did you guys see what they did to Al Franken, accusing him of endorsing rape?

I grew up in Jesse Helms-land. Anything goes in NC, and I think Dole could actually win the election this way. Hagan should show some outrage, specifically swear that she loves Jesus, and then quote some scripture about bearing false witness. IMO.

What's striking to me is how different Senator Dole looks since she's had all that surgery on her face. She looks like a different person.

Hagan can really win this, she's been running a great campaign, and Dole is clearly getting desperate. But Hagan's lead is not yet a comfy one -If people are looking for races to support across the country - give to Hagan, for sure. She's stellar, and it is incredible that NC is going this way!

A "godless American"? I'm rather surprised she conceded Hagan was even American.
I used to have some respect for Elizabeth Dole. Back when she was Transportation Secretary, she was the one responsible for the additional brake light at the top of every car's rear window (or on the trunk, or wherever) so the people behind you can tell the difference between brakes and a turn signal.
I'm sorry she's sold her soul; but I'm glad that selling her soul isn't helping her in her campaign.
These last days of Republican desperation remind me, ironically, of the last chapters of "Atlas Shrugged," when the sinister commie thugs push aside the well-meaning left-wingers who unwittingly ushered them in. Except now we have hate-filled right-wing thugs taking over from the better-groomed conservatives who ceded control in their Satanic pact to retain power.
