But that wasn't the brightest jewel of the episode...I'd love to see some footage posted of Stewie as a Nazi with the McCain-Palin button on. That was hee-larious and RIGHT DAMN ON!

If media outlets stop printing Bill Donohue’s press releases, does he cease to exist?

From the linked article:

"Mr Kirker said estimates had suggested 40% of US priests were gay. 'All those who know [the Roman Catholic church], know it is staffed top to bottom by gay people.'"

Top to bottom. Hehe.

I think the real problem with that press release is the conflation of homosexuality with pedophilia.

I think I have to disagree. Not Family Guy's finest hour. I did enjoy the "Back to the Future II" parody, though, complete with theme music. DAS POOOOP!!!

But seriously, you're telling me Family Guy brutally roasts people? I've never noticed in the NINE years they've been on the air.

I'm pretty sure they've already torn into catholic priests on several occasions.

I am really, truly shocked that Bill Donohue doesn't already assume that all gays are pedophiles.

I'm sorry, what does molestation have to do with gay?

Er, what about the fact that the Catholic church's gigantic crime back then was its awareness (as in Pope Pius's awareness) that the holocaust was happening and not speaking up about it at all? Isn't that a crime to be more worried about?

Really! Let's have an episode that lists all the horrors The Catholic Church and it's followers have unleashed on mankind in the last two thousand years.

how's this for a thorough lack of understanding of what homosexuality even IS:

no mos for the priesthood, except where the tendency is "merely the expression of a transitory problem such as ... uncompleted adolescence."

head, meet sand. again.

They're not confusing homosexuality with pedophilia. Christians just don't have a problem with straight male pedophiles. For example, 15 year old Miley Cyrus going to church with her 20 year old boyfriend.

As someone who grew up Catholic, and gay, I have a sort of working hypothesis that it's the guilt and sexual repression inherent in the Catholic church, combined with the celibacy rule for priests, that has led to so many people who are homosexuals entering the priesthood. If you're sensitive and have same-sex arousal but are overwhelmed by the whole guilt-and-damnation thing, your normal sexual development in the direction of adult relationships becomes stunted and infantilized, and you become closeted. Under those circumstances, the celibacy rule may seem very attractive because a) you think it will allow you to squelch the last vestiges of your sinful sexual nature, and b) it seems to ensure you have a ready excuse to avoid heterosexual flirtations and the pressures for marriage that Protestant ministers might encounter.

In real life, of course, it almost never works out that way. We are all sexual beings from in utero until we draw our last breaths. @5, 8, and 12, understand what I'm trying to get at here. It's not that homosexuality equals pedophilia, it just seems to me that a confluence of pressures that existed most powerfully within Catholicism, at least in the intensely isolating pre-Internet past, led to repression and infantilization of sexual identity that resulted in all-too-common molestation. I'd be interested to hear others' thoughts on this, pro and con.

In the early 90's, before pedophile priests hit the news in a big way, I attended a molecular-biology workshop at Catholic University in Washinton, DC, and stayed in the dorms to save money. Many of the seminarians I encountered there seemed much gayer to me than 95% of the dudes on my state-university campus--not that I sampled them directly. Ew. And I'm pretty sure that, from the come stains on the wall and the nighttime sounds around me, that many were sexually active.
