In this morning's installment, a slightly old but very nice Wall Street Journal interactive graphic that shows how far ahead Barack Obama is in the overall money race—and how far ahead he's been every month since January. (Rumor is that Obama's financial report for September will show him to be a $100 million man.) Also: A new Politico poll finds Obama leading McCain in 3 out of 4 bellwether Bush counties. And: A new swing state poll finds Obama well ahead of McCain in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin: Colorado: Obama 52, McCain 43 Michigan: Obama 54, McCain 38 Minnesota:...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't McCain tapped out? By accepting the $85 mil of federal money, doesn't he forego any further fundraising?

Does it smell a little Goldwater around here?

Not to be a DICKtionary, but it's "bellwether" (no A)--the word "wether" is Middle English for a sheep, so it's a sheep with a bell on its neck, leading the flock.

the washington post picked a bizarre picture to illustrate the '$100 million dollar man' article.

I've generally been less than enthused with the boy that cried wolf way people have been throwing around accusations of racism, but the whole black hand paycheck-forwarding vibe is off-topic for the article at the very least.

This doesn't show the millions the RNC is spending to supplement McCain's advertising in contested states.

"The RNC, which can raise and spend unlimited sums, has been supplementing McCain's TV ad budget in several states. The committee raised a record $66 million in September." -- LA Times article

The article goes on to say Obama has a funding advantage even considering RNC spending... but that WSJ graphic does not show the whole picture.

I just donated some more to Obama yesterday.

(Don't assume the cat's in the bag. It's fucking hard to get a cat into a bag, and even then the cat is likely to jump out. Sure, sometimes the cat will just go into the bag of its own accord, but I don't think this election is like that.)

On the swing state polls... I was at a campaign event this weekend, and David Plouffe said that the campaign considers Michigan to be Strong Obama, Minnesota and Wisconsin to be Lean Obama, and Colorado to be a battleground (though he did say that they were very close to moving it to Lean Obama).

The states he categorized as Strong Obama states had 207 electoral votes, and the Lean Obama had 70. So, in the campaign's view, without winning a single battleground state (NV, MT, CO, MO, IN, OH, NC, and FL), Obama will win the election.

Which is, basically, the same thing fivethirtyeight.com has been saying for awhile, but for some reason it was more calming to hear it from him...

Meh, It's actually way easier to get a cat in a box. You just leave it out on the living room floor, and they jump right in. They are way easier to carry around in a box, too. I don't know why so many people insist on using bags.

hey thanks @2.

turns out the usage of bellwether for a state that votes for the winner is not apt as that state isn't leading any other state.....

ok enuf etyquibbling.....

and yes the cat is IN the bag folks.

The real test however will be getting stuff passed after Pres. Obama wins. So I suggest
(a) keeping up all the yard signs
(b) continuing the meetups and organizing and speaking out for change
(c) spread your donations around to like Burenr and Franken etc., too.
(d) join up your local Demo party they will all reorganize this January pls. ensure the party officers and delegates to DNC refelct your views
(e) remember we will all have to push like hell for the long haul to get anything passed.....IOW view the election as the next hurdle and not the last.

They key is to change the frame most people use to look at politics and economics and stuff in our backwards, right leaning nation.

And get DC residents a fucking vote for christsake!!!! 2 more D senators most likely AAs!! Why do we let Alaska have two senators and DC none?

Unity y'all--
