And the Slog Happy Trivia Winners Are…

posted by on October 10 at 10:25 AM

First a HUGE thanks to all of you who came out to Slog Happy last night—I think the College Inn Pub was the perfect place to have it in October. Hot food, lots of beer, and I was pretty impressed with how well our server managed to remember a list of orders a dozen drinks long. How do they do that?

Jonah was a great trivia host (and I was glad to see Scary Tyler Moore and Joh put him in his place when we got too cocky!), and in the end, all the scores were pretty close! I think there was only a six-point spread between the first and last place teams, with, what, seven teams in all? Eight maybe?

Scary Tyler Moore and Fnarf’s team, won, of course. I think we all saw that coming. But in a close second, was Abby and Original Monique’s team. Not far behind them was Joh’s gang (forgive me for not remember who exactly was on what team).

But really, in the end, we were all winners since we all got to try wisepunk’s AWESOME homemade chocolate sea salt caramels. They were so good I had a dream about them last night.

So thank you again, all of you, for making the trip to the U-District. And hopefully next time someone can take take down Scary Tyler Moore’s team. We need to get a good rivalry going.

And now, the important question… what do you want to do for Slog Happy in November? Karaoke? Guitar Hero? Just drinks and mingling? And where do you want to have it? Back on the Hill? Downtown? Leave your suggestions in the comments, and we’ll do our best to make all your Slog Happy dreams come true.

Back on the hill! Rock Band! or Guitar Hero!

Our team also had Hernandez and his lovely fiancee Laura. They contributed about as much as I did -- a few questions each. Ms. Scary had most of the answers filled out before I'd really grasped what the question was. She got FRED HAMPTON, fer cryin' out loud.

A good time was had by me. The caramels were OFF THE HOOK, yo. I think that's what you young people say these days.

Oh, and for the record, I am NOT particularly into either The Big Bopper nor The Andrews Sisters (the Paris Sisters, now....)

You do not want to see me play Rock Band or Guitar Hero. No, really, you don't.

Scary Tyler Moore and Fnarf = best trivia teammates ever!

I'd rather play some Gears of War 2 over gayass Rock Band, which should never be played in public.

whoa, i kid you not -- i had a dream about chocolate sea salt caramels last night. my dream caramels weren't made by wisepunk, but still... freeky deeky!

no rock band.

hill or downtown preferred, of course.

karaoke could be disastrous.

how about a poetry slam?

For next time, maybe consider a place where it's easy to mingle and talk, in case some never-been-before folks like me decide to show.

November Slog Happy, by my muppet-imperial decree, will feature a live flame-war between Scary Tyler Moore and myself.

Live as in using actual flamethrowers. Better hold it outside, as in in Cal Anderson Park, with our drinks in paper bags.

Eat my flames, wenches!

I think Karaoke, but not constantly...maybe just a little of that and then some mingling?

I do think we should have a 'rock band' off...get teams of 4, see who can get the high score. That would be the one thing I know I could beat STM at....wait. Maybe not, she is CRAFTY!

And goddamnit I wanted to win so bad. But the caramels were the winner of the night. Thanks so much Wisepunk!

I'd prefer Animal Crossing II or My Sims Adventure over Rock Band, but maybe we could have both?

Loved the chocolates, and glad they had pints and pitchers of cider for us to share with our friends!

And congrats to our winning teams! Way to go! Even us losers had fun ...

On the hill. And at a place with far, far less fratboy types shouting at baseball on TV. Not that I don't like sports, but it was distracting. And am I the only one who felt kinda Anne Frank-ish stuffed into that little tiny room?

And as always it was great to meet some of you assholes in real life again. Also, air resistance is the same fucking thing as drag force, you fuckwads.

karoake AND guitar hero would be pretty legit.

karaoke AND guitar hero = Rock Band!

I seriously thought OM was going to wrestle with Scary over the Hump tickets. And I still believe we should've gotten a point for "Heywood Jablowme" as an answer.

The caramels were out of this world good, thanks Wisepunk! And thanks to Abby for replenishing my tea stash.

Dammit, Matt Fuckin' Hickey was there and I didn't get to meet him. I definitely think a place where we could mingle freely would be nice.

Riffing off a discussion some of us had last night, maybe we should do a Slog "Salon of Shame."

you WISH, schmucky monster.

i had a lovely time, as always. it always pays to be older than most of the people at slog in order to win trivia. unless, of course, it comes to the music kids listen to nowadays. how do you win at rock band or guitar hero? sam, help me out.

I am pro-trivia and pro-Rock Band, but most specifically, pro-Tekken Tag.

I had an awesome time last night, you guys! I liked the College in and our cozy little room, it was awesome for such a typical fall night.

@16

but if you don't have karaoke and just use rock band, you're limited to the songs in the game or $$$ for more. opposed to a karaoke setup which will allow for the successful renditions of Take on Me and Unbreak My Heart.

Darts and karaoke (safety goggles mandatory).

@17 - A Slog "Salon of Shame" would be hilarious! I'm going to my Mom's today to feed her cats while she's on vacation, so I'll be sure to rifle through my old bedroom for some classic Hernandez teen angst-filled missives, just in case.

@13 Neither of which is ENTROPY, which is what we would have put down had I let you have your way.

Told you so.

I prefer the Hill, and karaoke would be awesome.

Last night was way fun, but suspiciously lacking in Stranger staffers.

Please note: the unofficial Slogger Hump! screening is Friday the 24th, 10 pm. Get your tickets now! Ignore that gross post about anal gaping.

Didn't The Stranger begin its humble life in the U District back in the 1991 day? Well, that settles it, then. Three words:

THE. BLUE. MOON.

I know Bellevue Ave is itching to sing "Sweet Caroline" and "You're So Vain". Did anyone take a picture of the caramels?

It was a great time. I was pleased to be part of such a good trivia team, to which I basically contributed nothing, but oh well. Monique, PopTart, Jessica, Abby, you guys are AWESOME. The College Inn Pub also rules, as usual.

And as for Slog Salon of Shame, I say HELL YES.

Um...Rendezvous?

Um...no, gurldoggie. slog's been going for a year, and if it hasn't been at rendezvous in that time, it's never gonna be there. what's so great about the place anyway? besides your presence?

fnarf! i have your umbrella!

If bad karaoke is your wish, the Bush Gardens should definitely be on the list.

My umbrella is a sad disaster. Try opening it, you'll see. You can have it.

If you do it at bush garden, I'm the host on Thursday nights and I can promise an awesome time.

I can even take requests ahead of time and try to bring in some karaoke extras that aren't in the books.

There's no real happy hour, but food is 2 for 1 until it stops being served (10:30 pm?), and the drinks are stiff.

thanks for the kind words about the candy! I vote rock band and anywhere with seating for all next time
