A friend of mine pointed out that vote-by-mail, while convenient and better in a lot of ways, takes away from the feeling of "meaningful ritual" that accompanies a trip to the local church/elementary school/etc to stand in line, sign your name, walk to a booth, pull the curtain, and farking VOTE. and then leave.

He said it feels more like paying your bills: welllll guess I gotta vote now. Sit down, get out the pamphlet, spend an hour doing this thing..

Anyways. Whatever. I VOTED!

in 2004, it was nice going to the Miller Park area school and talk with Cap Hill volunteers who were proctoring the Democratic voting process, IMO, a better way to SPEND one's time than hanging in a bar with Republican types who get paid to write political propaganda.

Strikes me odd that folks worry about tainted elections and then vote by mail.

As someone suffering from pre-election anxiety, it felt really good to have my ballot complete. A small semblance of control returned.

Why don’t you take some time to write about something unique to the city. An exhibit that will never be shown here again. An exhibit that means something to everyone…even though it’s not too contirversial.

One of the baristas at Bulldog News sent hers in this morning, but that was a California Absentee Ballot ... she said she voted on all the propositions.

And I voted last week, from the sofa.

I think Republicans make sure that it isn't known so they can return to sender ballots for insufficient postage. After election day, of course.

I voted last week at the dining room table with my wife and our roommate, consulting the Voter's Guide and the Stranger endorsements. I really prefer this way to going into a booth and feeling rushed to get your vote done. Yay for voting by mail!

I love going to the polls, so I'm voting old school at the elementary school down the street, which...is also my old school.

I voted on my bed, next to my boyfriend who has been tormenting me about voting for Palin. Yes Palin, not McCain. He hasn't gotten his ballot yet though.

Remember back in 2000 - Florida was *searching* for many of their mailed in ballots. (Pretty sure some were lost.)

Back then, a news report said the early votes were not even counted at all if it looked as if the 'regular votes' could make the determination of the winners without them.

I would surely like to think things have changed, but I can't help but wonder. (Yeah - still worrying about everything...) Can anybody reassure me?
