Youth Pastor Watch

Oregon:

A former private school teacher and high school coach must now register as a sex offender after being convicted of having sex with a 17-year-old girl.

Andrew John Humphreys, 27, appeared in Douglas County Circuit Court for sentencing Tuesday. The man pleaded guilty in July to the misdemeanor charge of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor.

Humphreys was 26 when he had sex with the teen he’d met at their church, Oakland Church of Christ, where he served as a youth group leader, said Deputy District Attorney Colin Benson.

Ontario:

With four alleged victims already, Peel Regional Police are making a public plea for any other potential victims of a former Mississauga youth pastor and camp director to come forward.

Garth Stanwyn Bent, 48, of Acton, was charged with four counts of indecent sexual assault Tuesday. Those charges come eight months after police charged Bent with one count of indecent assault on a male….

All the alleged assaults took place between 1981 and 1982 when Bent was a youth counsel or youth pastor at St. Bride’s Church in Mississauga and the out-trip director at the Ontario Pioneer Camp in Port Sydney. The force’s Special Victims Unit said all the alleged victims were 12 to 14 at the time.

Tennessee:

YPWskate2.jpgSince beginning his youth ministry at the South Seminole Drive church two years ago, pastor Derek Eledge, 27, has reached out to the children others shun by creating a place for them to skateboard, hang out and develop a relationship with God.

“When I saw all the skaters skating through the parking lot, God told me, ‘There’s your youth group,’” he said.

Yer a dick for posting that last one. Justify it however you want, but it's true.

@1: Yeah. Is this pre-emptive youth pastor bombing? Are you assuming that a guy who creates a safe haven for skateboarders is predisposed to making the kiddies grind on his pubes? I almost wanna give the guy a free pass, considering how shitty it is for kids in the south to try and skateboard anywhere. Emphasis on ALMOST.

He stole that off "King of the Hill". Great episode though.

I guess the one in the middle seems bad...

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the first one. A 17 year old girl is perfectly capable of choosing who to have sex with, and 10 years isn't that significant of an age gap.

Mmm. Skate-boarding Christians.

The 1st one should've driven to WA, where the age of consent is 16.

We live in a world where it's natural for people to put their sex organs in each others anus, but not for a 26 year male and 17 year old female to have sex.

Yes, someday real heterosexuals may come out of the closet!

Yah... So who's fucking 17 year olds around here????????

For the first one: It's not the age gap, its the violation of power. At least most churches make real ministers pass psych screenings and courses on ethics

For the third one: justify, please.

Dan + opportunity to post picture of hot young dude = what explanation is needed?

Not only is it unnatural to put something in an anus, it's not even possible. Do you put your sex organ in a vulva? Bzzzt. Wrong.

Yeah, I'm scratching my head over that third oneas well. Or is Youth Pastor Watch following the Bush Doctorine?

Third item: Sometimes we like to recognize the good deeds performed by innocent (and/or not-yet-indicted) youth pastors. This was one of those times.

And it's "Youth Pastor Watch," people, "Not Baby-Raping Youth Pastor Watch." We can watch any damn youth pastor we like.

Okay, I'll buy that you wanted to recognize the good works being done by youth pastors, but perhaps you could have mentioned that. I mean, you must admit that most of the Youth Pastor Watch postings are the kind that make parents want to lock their children in the basement until they are 18.

If someone were to post this about gay people they would be called a bigot. Especially if they mislead people by placing fake photos in withing the quoted news items.

Withing the quoted news items, that is

Posted by JT | September 12, 2008 2:13 PM

And that's why it's so hard to find hateful crap about gay people on the Interwebs.

You know what I like about the pastor watch? It's called "Youth Pastor Watch," and not "He/She Must Have Seduced That Pastor Somehow." There's a dispassionate nature to this that isn't suggestive, and serves only to condense these stories into one source. Unless, Dan, you support a ban on pastors?
