This reminds me of that press conference from a couple of years ago when Bush kept insisting that a blind reporter take his sunglasses off. The difference is that Biden's recovery was smart and graceful, while Bush just acted like a stubborn idiot for about ten minutes.

I don't see how anyone, aside from Michelle Malkin or Seanh Hannity, could call this a gaffe. The was a beautiful, honorable recovery from a simple mistake.

"Everybody stand up for the senator! Let's all demonstrate how easy it is to do what this man finds impossible."

Biden's rebound on that one was smooth. I'm impressed.

Awesome. How tremendous would it be to have him instead of Darth Cheney and the Obamas in charge. Wow.

I love him. He's like the cute uncle that is pretty much embarassing.

In a similar situation, what would John McCain do? He would call in Sarah, the VP of health affairs to lay on hands and heal. The Assemblies of God Fundamental Truth #12:

Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers. (Isa. 53:4,5; Matt. 8:16,17; James 5:14-16)

"you can tell I'm new"... that's class.Nice recovery.

The 'race' must be terrifying for all involved, esp. the people with good intentions...

You can put lipstick on Miss Piggy, and she's still Miss Piggy.

#6 & #12 - You're reading just a little to far into it. It's pretty standard for people to rise in recognition of somebody. Royalty, Magistrates and brides on their damned wedding day. Besides, standing to recognize somebody is generally considered more deferential than standing to be recognized, Biden (whether or not he realized it) took it up a notch on the respect scale instead of down, and *gasp* Admitted to an Error!

@5: Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please.
