"...they’re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they’re uppity,”

A good follow-up would be to ask this moron what he'd call a woman who wears a $300,000 outfit to the RNC. Fucking christ. Uppity?

For those of you who are just getting to know Representative Westmoreland, perhaps you'd like to better know him:

Imagine the reaction if Obama had a pregnant teenage daughter by a trash-talking African American kid, and the Obamas brought that kid up on stage with their family at the convention.

The Christianists would go nuts.

The Republicans are the party of the extremely wealthy, and they're trying to call Democrats "elitist". Of all their lies, that is the most disingenuous.

Not to be confused with NPR, which referred to Obama one week ago as the "local boy" who defied the deathmarch to Denver and who beat the stupid Clintons at their own stupid game.

Or with Greatest Es-President Ever Jimmy Carter who referred to Obama last week as "black boy." (Not to be confused with Democrat-for-life from WHite Virginia, Robert Byrd, who explicated "white ni**ers.")

(And speaking of stupid games, when John McCain launched his 'game changer' last week, he dealt himself out.)

(And speaking of this: " ... reaction if Obama had a pregnant teenage daughter by a trash-talking African American kid ..." Sort of sounds like Obama's own immaculate conception, doesn't it ... if you change trash-talking African American kid to trash-talking African kid from Kenya ... I mean, wasn't Obama's typically white mum about 17 when the angel of the Christianist lord started her up ...)

I really wanted to write something snide but the article beat me to it:
“Sounds like Rep. Westmoreland should be careful throwing stones from his candidate's eight glass houses,” said Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor.

It stresses me the fuck out that people are comparing Sarah Palin to Michelle Obama at all.

More to the point, it stresses me the fuck out that the people I've talked to who like Sarah Palin (I am referring to coworkers here) like her on her First-Lady-qualities--her sassiness, her handsome looks, her quick smile, et cetera--and not on her (Vice) Presidential qualities.

The comparison between Sarah Palin and Michelle Obama, instead of Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, has got to stop.

This guy is actually MY representative. It makes me feel so proud! I've already fired off an angry e-mail to him that I'm sure he'll never read.

This from the guy who co-sponsored a bill requiring the display of the Ten Commandments — only three of which he could name during a subsequent TV interview. Yeah.

well, give the guy some credit for having the balls/stupidity to say out loud what a large number of Republicans, esp Southern ones, say in the privacy of their own homes, churches and country club locker rooms...

When Obama wins, I'm hoping a large number of them will have simultaneous strokes...

Speaking of elitists, aren't both John McCain III and his wife Cindy Beer Heiress McCain both third or fourth generation elitists?

Just sayin.

Posted by Will in Seattle | September 4, 2008 3:51 PM

No, Cindy McCain's dad was a wanna-be elitist who never really made it into posh Phoenix society. He started his career hanging out with mobsters, as most beer distributors used to do.

They don't care....1 drop rule.

I'm expecting a large turnout of new voters, and this thing will only motivate them further.

Well, of course this dumbass peckerwood wanted the ten commandments posted - obviously, he needs to be reminded of what they are, since he can't seem to recall them.

Just another brain-dead Talibush-christo-fascist numbnuts asswipe.

How can they be elitist and uppity at the same time? If they are elitist, that would imply they ARE a member of the upper classes.

Wait, I'm actually bothering to analyze the grammar of the same party that elected George W. Bush. Never mind.

I've never heard of the term "uppity" having a racial tinge to it.

I do live in the South, but people generally know if what they are saying is racial or not, even if they tend to say it frequently.

Could someone please explain?

Posted by Tara | September 5, 2008 10:18 PM

Tara,
You're either young, or you've weren't paying attention. I don't know how else to explain it.

Given that half of the people in this country weren't alive when Jimmy Carter was prez, let alone before all of that when most of the civil rights progress was made, well, maybe you're young.

It's racial. Go forth and learn.

CP, your attitude is hardly helpful. Tara asked a question. Why don't you answer it, or if you can't, keep your snotty attitude to yourself.

The reason uppity is offensive is because in pre-civil rights days it was often coupled with the n-word, as in an "uppity n*****" It was applied most frequently to blacks who showed any personal pride or accomplished any kind of success in business, politics, etc. It reflects the attitude that blacks should stay "in their place" namely, taking the lowest paying, most menial jobs, not exercising political power of any kind, not moving into white communities, etc. That's why its offensive.
