I like how he combats the fact that they're lying repeatedly about Obama's and Palin's records by saying, "Those aren't lies."
Guess that's, like, the end of the discussion then, eh Johnny?
He got worked gurrrl!
Every news organization in the country just got smacked down by the damn View ladies. Even Elisabeth asked tougher questions, and she's on his side!
This needs to be Democrats for the next 56 days:
"John McCain is a liar"
"Sarah Palin is a liar"
repeat repeat repeat.
make these fuckers pay
I love this! The View is the perfect venue for this sort of questioning. Hard questions towards McCain that isn't only viewed by liberals.
Know what I say to these interviews? U-S-A! U-S-A! Try to throw Whoopie or Babs into dissention prison, big dog. And that Joy Behar is Bad. Ass.
Joy Behar, American Hero
One old man vs 5 women. They beat his ass good.
This is the second time in two days McCain has blamed his campaigns tactics on Obama's "refusal" to appear with him on talk shows or town hall meetings.
The reason why Obama doesn't want to appear on town hall meetings is because they are almost exclusively vetted to be favorable to Republicans.
@9:
Really? And are you an expert on town hall mettings now? Where's the link buddy?
Awesome interview.
Too bad McCain voters would love nothing more than overturning Roe v. Wade, returning to slavery, and fundamentalist Christianity as the country's official religion.
@ 11 - yes, just like all Obama voters want to turn America into a godless Communist caliphate.
Stereotypes: fun AND educational.
I think what I loved the most was the tones of disapproval from the audience when he was discussing how he wants to over turn Roe v. Wade.
I swore I heard an "ohnohedidn't"
@12:
The difference being of course that SOME of these "stereotypical" positions are in fact part of the GOP platform...
I have newfound respect for THE VIEW.
THE VIEW, for Chrissakes.
@3 - EXACTLY
@ 12 - overturning Roe v. Wade, sure. Not the other two.
Also, @ 10 said McCain voters, not GOP platform, and I'm fairly certain at least some Obama voters, especially those on Slog, are pro-godless and pro-Communist, regardless of the official Democratic Party platform.
And, for the record, I'm neither a Christian nor a Republican. I just think it's stupid and unnecessary that the Slog falls back on the easiest, stupidest stereotypes about Christians and Republicans, e.g., they're all racist mouth-breathers.
Especially when there will be plenty of McCain voters who don't have a strong or at least a strong, settled opinion on Roe v. Wade and aren't fundamentalist Christians.
But hey, what do I know? I'm just a contrarian asshole.
It bears repeating: Joy Behar is a bad ass.
BAD MOTHERFUCKING ASS!!!!!
@16 - You're not wrong.
I'm a Christian who attends what many people on Slog would consider a "fundamentalist" church (even though I would disagree) and I'm a proud Obama supporter. I may be in the minority down here, especially since the Palin pick, but we do exist!
Ending an argument with a "Hey, what do I know? I'm just a _________" is not clever or thought provoking. It doesn't make anyone think, "Whoa, maybe I shouldn't be so dismissive, he might have a point." It makes you sound like a fucking idiot.
Wow, impressive. Yet I'm still not sold on Obama yet. South Park was right -- do I vote for Giant Douche or Turd Sandwich?
Man, that was a hard-hitting interview! Good job, ladies! Elisabeth even had to save McCain at one point. Did you guys see when they asked the McCains about their houses and Elisabeth was like, "But they give back money to the needy, let's go to commercial." That bitch! oh well, still kicked their ass!
McCain supporters being pro-slavery was a hyperbole, but the other two points are valid. McCain is against Roe v. Wade and believes America is a Christian nation. http://www.beliefnet.com/story/220/story_22001_1.html
#10 In the clip McCain states that the tone of the campaign wouldn't be as vitriol if Obama would have accepted his (McCain's) invitation to go on a series of town hall meetings to debate the issues and answer audience questions. He said, word for word, the exact same thing on TV last night at the Service Nation Presidential Candidates Forum at Columbia University (it was on TV last night so you can find a clip yourself).
My second statement regarding Obama's reasons for not wanting to do the town hall meetings was something I had heard several times on the Cable news a few months ago. This reasoning did not come out of Obama's mouths, but from many of the Democratic talking heads that appear on such shows.
And do't call me buddy asshole.
"Strict constitutionalist"? Ouch, Whoopi. Ouch.
I don't think this issue is getting enough exposure (though, I've seen it mentioned a few times here), but the number of Supreme Court nominees the next president may have is of enormous significance.
A strict constructionist interprets the Constitution to protect only those rights that are spelled out on the parchment, which means there is no constitutional right to an abortion, pro-creation, birth control, or sexual privacy, among other rights.
As of now, the seats most likely to open during the next 4-8 years are all on the liberal block. These justices are the ones who interpret the Constitution to protect rights not explicit in its text. If McCain starts nominating Scalia/Thomas clones (i.e., strict constructionists, as he intends), the balance tips and, pending the Court's opportunity to pass on them, those rights I mentioned above may no longer be constitutional rights.
Go back and watch the clip again and pay attention to McCain's face when Joy Behar says, "Now we know these ads are untrue, they're lies..." Can't you just see the rage boiling up in him? McCain is fucking scary.
#24 Thank you. This is what I keep telling people who are either voting for Nader not not at all. If McCain/Palin gets in office, they will stack the Supreme Court so that it will strip the Constitution of all meaning and hand all power over to the President, making this an effective dictatorship.
Strike hard.
Strike often.
And NEVER apologize!
