Well, she did good stuff there (and for the UCB previously)- but she's pregnant, so it's not that surprising that she's going. I don't see what the big deal is really. Poehler's extremely funny, but there's other funny women who can fill that job just fine.

What that gawker article makes no mention of though, is that:

It's to start her own spin-off of The Office after having her beautiful dual comedian baby spawn! Few probably know that she is married to stud Will Arnett from Arrested Development.

And "flailing sketch show"? SNL goes in cycles, it will have a couple of off years. Everyone always says ZOMG SNL WILL BE NOTHING WITHOUT (Fallon / Ferrel / Sandler / etc etc) then comes the next talent.

You have to leave SNL after a certain amount of time, or else you get the status of a soap-opera actor - a "lifer." Darrell Hammond is a funny enough guy, but whenever I see that he's still a cast member, I just sort of feel bad for him. The lifer.

The cast should be rotated way more than it already is. Poehler, like most other comedians, is way more funny outside of SNL. Plus, there's still Kristen Wiig.

SNL has ALWAYS sorta/kinda/totally sucked...I watched some of the original classic Belushi/Chase/Ackroyd/Radner stuff not long ago, and it wasn't quite as brilliant as I remember...lots of great stuff to be sure, but also lots of dreck...

And in the entire history of the show, they've probably had about three great sketches that ran in the last half hour.

Comment by Sean

@10
If you don't like SNL, then you don't like comedy. The show is indirectly responsible for at least half of all comedy produced in this country since the 70's. (These days, the Daily Show is responsible for the other half.)

Think I'm exaggerating? Then check out the list of SNL alumni.

It's a live show that's produced from scratch each week, so it's not going to have the batting average of a carefully crafted stand up routine or movie. But it's still one of few things on TV worth watching.

I wanna see Andy Samberg in more things. "Space Olympics" was only moderately funny, but it was the second-best segment in the show. His earlier shorts "Iran So Far," "Lazy Sunday," and motherfuckin' "Dick in a Box" were all brilliant.
