Dan Savage -brave warrior Oct. 2002

War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times. Saying no to war in Iraq means saying yes to the continued oppression of the Iraqi people.

In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves.

Looks like there has been a change in the schedule. There shall be no Koolhaas at Central Library today.

Library site says:

"Architect Joshua Prince-Ramus, co-designer of the Central Library building, will give a presentation titled, "Learning from The Seattle Public Library" at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Central Library, Microsoft Auditorium."

"Please note: OMA's Rem Koolhaas was originally scheduled to give this presentation. "

So Koolhaus got traded for Some Other Architect. Well, damn. I was genuinely excited about this event, especially given Koolhaus's scheduled subject, namely "Public Space," an increasingly important subject for our increasingly self-privatizing city lately.

Charles, if The Rem is gonna give the same talk here in The Seattle anytime soon, any chance you can give us all a heads-up if'n you hear about it early, if not first?

I awoke to the sound of sweet nothings in my feel good syndromaeda, that undefined space in the connective muse of a musician.

Previously I had witnessed Judge Roy Bean in a fruitcake high on mescaleans...

French lashes in a boutique full of carmel eyes and neopolitan panda bears.

Sailing on the absynnian dreams of a cat dancer, I remembered the paradigms of misgiven understandings that once hindered the writers block of my mind...

and enabled the political electorate to steal the babies from the bedroom.

Here and there everywhere at once they came running in to greet me... amazed as I was by the last tango of my sign... which was hanging off my torso like a torrid Fabio book cover in a dime store novel.

Rabbit le La pin.. stinky the hammock he was once called remorse... and the gentle breeze of the coast brought in the yogis and Bodisativa Pram colored on tandem trykes like the purple haze of a counterfeit journalist hell bent on blatherig bake sales inside the 1000 foot zone of the prenuptial agreement.

There... on a bridge to nowhere was the Candidate...

and over there was the hellaport...

That scene of scrumptueous tuesday afternoon lovers drinking in the bliss of the sidewalk cafe'.

All at once the director shouts action...

the cavalcade of nuisance stopped like the bursting of balloons in a grandstand parade of railway hip-slip-cheerio-chip chap-cheerleaders.

God, I was as high as the podium and all I could do was look down upon the play fields of strawberry ice cream bumble bees and sing.... it's good to be alive.

Don Henly was singing in the background he had come here to kill the dragon over and over and over and yet the silly birds around my head just wouldn't quit singing like the old uncle remus musicals we grew from petrie dishes in the science lab after recess...

Her thighs showing from the back of her chemists coat as I pretended to drop my pencil on the floor for the benefit of the aide who claimed he never saw the beeker leave the watercooler... Scott Weilded the microphone to the barn door and hummingbirds balanced on the head of a pin waiting for the dean to come in and cancel the audition...

Then curiously I fell asleep again to the screaming of the crowd as the leader of the band took the floor and Marcus Welby M.D. introduced the writer...
Ladies and gentle men... the award for screen writer of the year goes to....

(Possible interesting froward note to the academy)

Speaking of public spaces: more piazzas, please! The Central Library is a fine example of public space for Seattle. Airy yet roofed, with lots of light. (What is this dark city's problem with windows and balconies?)

Joshua Prince-Ramus's presentation was interesting and fun. Thanks for letting me know about the event, Slog.
