I kind of liked Mostly Harmless. I thought it was a fitting way for the trilogy to end. But yeah, bad news.

I heard that Adams was under contract for that last book and that he thought it was terrible too.

All Douglas Adams fans should check out "Last Chance to See", about his round-the-world jaunt with a zoologist to find the world's most endangered animal species almost 20 years ago. Its soooo delightful, but also kinda tragic since several of those species have since gone the way of Adams himself...

One of my favorite book titles ever is "Long Dark Teatime of the Soul", not Adams's best book but his best title.

Continuations of book franchises are always doomed to failure because we love the voice of the original author. The impersonater of that voice is doomed to hackery.

E. F. Benson's delightful Lucia novels were so popular in re-release that another one was penned in the 90's and it was just a pale reflection of the originals. I wanted to love it but just couldn't.

NONOFUCKINGNO! Eoin Colfer is a huge hack. I hate his books, his writing style sucks balls, and he has pretension that just magnifies his actual inability to write.

Artemis Fowl is one of the most idiotic children's series ever, trying to cash in on the Harry Potter train, in the same way Eragon only really got popular after the first few HP movies came out. Yeah! Why not ask the Eragon kid to write it! It will be at least as bad, but you can excuse it by the fact they handed it to a child!

*angry panting*

I currently re-reading the series, and this is horribly, horribly sad.

Mostly Harmless was great.

Having someone else write a Hitchhikers book is shit. Lets have Sue Grafton write "The Making of Americans II." Why the hell not, right?

Mostly Harmless was mostly disappointing but this is just plain wrong.

If you thought "Mostly Harmless" was bad, try -- just TRY, I dare you -- to read one of Colfer's novels. They are gut-wrenchingly bad; the sort of thing that you have to put down because you feel embarrassed for the author.

DO NOT WANT.

The worst thing about this is the mental image: Artemis Fowl raping the corpse of Arthur Dent.

Eoin Colfer is such a hack and a tool.

Dude. Mostly Harmless sucked massive donkey balls. As did it's predecessor, if slightly smaller ones. Should've stopped at 3, boyo.

The problem: We didn't love the books for their plots (although they weren't bad) but it was all about Adams' linguistic and logistical acrobatics. I don't know who this other guy is, but it just can't possibly be the same.

Jason...Pick up an Artemis Fowl book. Try it. I dare you. Most adults can't do it for more than a couple chapters. I finished the first one, just because I kept waiting for it to get GOOD. And...and it never happened...ever...
