Slog - Comments on The Ultimate

Authorities say a body found encased in concrete next to a home in San Diego's North Park area is believed to be that of an 80-year-old Hemet man who disappeared in May. Police say three roommates found the body Friday while demolishing a large egg-shaped concrete form left in the yard. We must stop what ever it is we are doing and examine this amazing story. It contains the ultimate shape: the egg; the ultimate substance: concrete; and a core that is the ultimate truth: a dead man....

I suspect this might have been a concrete form, i.e., something you pour concrete into to fabricate a particular object, rather than an actual solid concrete object. The article is not too clear. A photo would be nice.

Comment by treacle

@3 Jesse, the egg is the ultimate shape for a couple reasons.
One: it is the most common shape in the universe. Describing the shapes of cells, seeds, eggs, droplets, orbits, planets, suns, galaxies, and more, far more accurately than a perfect circle (which is incredibly rare in nature).
And Two: it is a universal metaphor for Life, and the beginning of life.

@1 A, concrete is the ultimate substance because it is a rock that can be formed into anything Man wants. It is both a liquid and a solid. It represents our ability to shape our world to our desires. It represents the whims of Money and Power to build and create. It is, in short, our future. Building a concrete future.
