The Stranger’s Debate Party List

posted by on September 26 at 12:40 PM

Slog reader Brian writes:

Does SLOG know of good places to watch debates (& drink)? if so it’d be a great slog entry! I know there must be some bars that are going to turn off the jukebox and turn full attention to the debates while others, many others, will be all like, ah who cares, and play sports and music or nothing instead. But I’m not in the know of good places to go for watching the debate tonight at 6.

Fear not, we are in the know. In addition to preparing for our big debate liveblog (featuring Dan Savage, Erica Barnett, and myself), I’ve also been putting together a list of places where you can go to watch the debate (preferably with your laptop so you can participate in our liveblog as well).

The full list in the jump. If you’re throwing a public party and want to add it, just email me and I’ll put your party on the list, too.

Among the party people and party places that you’ll find more information about when this blog post continues:

Galaxy Theater (Gig Harbor); Spitfire; Michele Frix (Renton); various Obama house parties around the state; Neighbours; Cafe Metropolitan; Cafe Presse; Twilight Exit; The Bottleneck Lounge; Tini Bigs & Hula Hula’s; the Columbia City Theater; Moe Bar; and various bars and restaurants and community centers from Spokane to Olympia.

And here’s the list:

I think the only special interest party not on this list is the Bong Hits 4 Obama crowd. Although the "equalitini" sounds promising.

I recently moved to Berkeley, and don't know the scene too well. Anybody know of bars that would show the debate down here?

Spitfire will be the place to be, 2 rooms, tons of TV's, Volume thru the house speakers and plenty of people to watch and mingle with. I hear the Govenor might be there, (again)to watch with her community and supporters. Spitfire will be having a fundraiser for Gregoire on the 7th debates which she will also be attending...

Why is the 43rd having its gathering in the 36th? Why isn't the 36th having a debate watch party?

@7

The 36th is always in bed by 8.

Riddle me this :

This is a debate between two men who are vying to become the president of a nation which is in pretty shaky shape at the moment. It would seem that the things they have to say, and the ability to concentrate on those things, would, or should, be rather high on the importance scale.

This being the case, can someone tell me why anyone whose main concern should be finding a place to be able to drink, party and blog during it should be taken even remotely seriously in any way?

Can anyone give me a link to watch it online - anyone who'll be airing it live?

@ 10: C-span might. Or MSNBC. It shouldn't be too hard to find.

@ 9: Some people don't have TVs, so they need places to go to participate. The drinks are a bonus.

By midday Monday, someone will have slogged a prissy complaint about how a sports bar refused to show the debate.

Ugh, just thinking about watching the debates at a bar makes me bored.

I'll be up at 0200 here in Hamburg, DE to watch Gramps act like a total idiot. I'm sure the moderator will be over-deferential, and Obama will be hemmed in by whatever cloying format is imposed, but it will still be embarassing for our favorite POW.

And it won't matter, because the kind of idiots who like Palin are not exactly tuned into reasoned discourse.

The Spitfire was so packed that even if you showed up early, there was a line to get in, and not everyone could get in.

Very fun!
