I hope the Duwamish do win federal fishing rights in the river - tribal fishing habits play an enormous role in getting the fucking EPA to set human safety standards for edible fish and shellfish. Otherwise the businesses along the river will keep saying we shouldn't clean up to a standard that makes the food safe, because nobody eats them except the ordinary poor.

I was stunned to discover just how strong the returning fish runs in the Duwamish are these days. Still a long way to go, but the river isn't dead, not by a long shot. I just can't feel outraged for a guy who eats four to six bags of popcorn a day. It's too ridiculous and disgusting to contemplate.

I remember a hurricane hitting Cape Cod when we were there, back when I was in single digits. It was, to a seven-year-old, awesome. We got to take our baths in a pond!

It was probably less cool than I remember it being, though.

There was the poetry in nature with the hurricane going into NOLA during the Rs convention. I see similar poetry in Hr. Ike having the same name as republican president Eisenhower, aks Pres. Ike(r).

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that the poetry is all, literally, hot air over the bermuda triangle. There will be nothing poetic if two hurricanes hit the east coast, back to back. The failing US infrastructure, which you do know the Eisenhower Highway System is a part of and which has lacked proper federal funding for the last 26 years, due in no small part to John McSame not voting in favor of the many, many bills he could have voted for to increase highway repair funds, can not take it.

And if SLOG hadn't eaten my prior reply, @13, you'd know the big cash cow is the prison/jail/police/justice system wasting our tax dollars on jailing drug users instead of drug dealers. Well, that plus the giant hole Ex-sherrif Reichert (GOP WA-8) blew in it when he insisted on a death penalty trial and then gave away life in prison as a favor ...
