Slog - Comments on Superamas

We're suggesting the performance/dance/cultural clusterfuck known as Superamas at On the Boards today. But Eric Fredericksen, director of Western Bridge and board member at OtB, took exception to our SFW photo of the show: You're the only one who can save the day by sharing the awesome NSFWness of Superamas with your Slog audience. Do you know what happens when a newsworthy NSFW theater photo doesn't appear on Slog? Sarah Palin wins. Right you are, Mr. Fredericksen. Selling theater with sex—works better than those goofy bus-billboards. Here's one SFW photo of the show: And a NSFW one. Also, the Superamas...

Comment by inkweary

I saw the Superams show last night and was both bored and annoyed by it. The scenes were played out like Saturday Night Live sketches from the 80's. These were then repeated several times with minor variations to hit us over the head with The Truth with capital T's that we Westerners are vapid, self-centered consumers lacking in any saving sense of philosphic purpose. As if no one had ever made satire from that premise before. It was like being berated in a bar by an undergrad who is majoring in art with a minor in philosophy. Those of you who commented above on your love for dancers' bodies would have been gratified by the repeated stripping of the three principle women, who did indeed have beautiful perfect bodies. Their nakedness was attractive but gratutious as well as sexist since the men of the company merely took their shirts off to display very average HWP physiques. The show ended with a long quotation from Derida to remind us that to live in any expectaion of happiness is to be ultimately dissappointed. Well, since I saw the show they certainly accomplished that with me.
