Comrades! Another heroic victory in our Great Patriotic War on Drugs! Thousands of pot plants seized in King County! And the PI’s Paul Shukovsky is there to bravely take dictation!
Remember comrades: When it comes to the Great Patriotic War on Drugs, there is only one side to the story! There is no need for reporters to get a quote from someone—anyone—on the other side of this issue! There is need to get a comment from someone believes that our never-ending war on pot is a waste of money, police resources, and lives! There is no need to quote from someone who believes that the quickest way—the only way—to put a stop to illegal grow-ops is to legalize, tax, and regulate marijuana! Because those people don’t exist!

The local press should be asking why the SPD is cooperating with the Feds in this investigation. Local law enforcement are bound by ordinance (I-75) to make cannabis offenses the lowest law enforcement priority. Clearly there are smarter ways to allocate scarce law enforcement resources.

Unlike most workers, police embody the visceral image of the hero who rushes toward danger when most others are fleeing. They go to work when individuals, the social system and/or its inanimate physical parts appear to be intrinsically threatened. Broadly, they defend what can no longer defend itself, becoming a thin blue line between order and encroaching chaos. Given, therefore, that the police are depended on to defend against the absence of order, I think most people, including reporters and editors, feel a need to lend credence to police viewpoints by not seeking opposing viewpoints, thereby nurturing and sustaining the psychic fortitude we rely on in them which is necessary to rebuild the fraying edges of our threatened world. In a sense, to be improperly critical of police is to undermine our own well being.
