Finding hypocrisy and contradictions from two years ago is so quaint. The new political speech perfected in the McCain/Palin era is a perfectly realized form of double-speak straight out of Orwell, where words change meaning in mid-paragraph and the thing that you were against two sentences ago you are now for and have always been for. The unspeakable insult hurled by your opponent today is the very same misunderstood colloquialism you uttered the day before.

Asking questions or seeking information on a candidate is now a 'vicious partisan attack,' tantamount to treason, but only when the candidate thus being attacked is in the ruling party, because we all have a duty to afford them respect. (See also: questioning fitness to lead of a veteran.)

Obama's comment last week that 'words mean something' and 'you can't just make stuff up' reflects how out-of-touch he is with current political parlance. Clearly you can just make stuff up. The Bush era of constant brazen mendacity has given way to an era where it is considered perfectly normal to lie straight to the camera and rude to refer to this practice as lying.

Well of course the 'media' is obsessed over this-- I guarantee that the phrase is as old as the USA and at various sites it's already been proven that Mcain had already used it in reference to Hillary...

Shut the story down y'all, will ya? Done. Done.

It ain't about the 'quaintisms, it's all 'bout the power of obsession y'all put behind 'em.
