American Airlines sent the body of a Brooklyn mom to the wrong country for burial - and then callously demanded more money to fix the screwup, the widower and others involved in a lawsuit charged Monday.

At least the body racks up some flyer miles though.
In fairness to American Airlines, the part you left out was that they waived the fee the moment they realized it was their own employee's typo that caused it.
Fucking Lilliputians.
@2 Some typo- Switching Ecuador and Guatemala?
And how could they even for a second consider this the husband's fault? Did they just assume the guy spaced on what country she was from??
Fucking idiots.
@4: Remember, all airports are three-letter codes. The correct code was GYE, and the employee in New York typed GUA. Which, granted, he only got one letter out of three correct, but it's not like the codes were ECU and GUA either.
@ 2. True. I'm a yellow journalist. And a bad, bad man.
Ooooh, tell us more about just how bad you are, Kiley....
@5 that is true, but it still doesn't explain how they assumed it was HIS fault. If the codes (which, again, only employees use) are that close and the actual names are not, it seems a bit odd that they would immediately lay blame on him.
the corporate (unstated) position is: always put the onus on the consumer. if he squeals, then deal. if he doesn't--hey, that's more money for us! gotta admit, it's logical if not exactly ethical. why should anyone be surprised by stuff like this?
