Sick. Just sick.

I despised her when she became Governor of Alaska mainly because of this. Should she become President, thanks to McCain's many illneses, I can't imagine what'll happen to our wild life, not to mention our Country and the Planet.

Pfft. I would have punched my screen if I had seen an endorsement of this by Barack Obama.

The average American likes hunting. And Alaska is considered a raw, wild frontier by most people. Hunting for food, especially during winter, is seen as an honorable way of life. Our pioneer forefathers and such...

This ad probably makes her more appealing to more people than it will turn off.

Awful, yes. But Americans LOVE macho cruelty.

Yes that video made me cry. But it's not only softie animal lovers like myself that should be upset about this program. Salon.com has a great article (http://www.salon.com/env/feature/2008/09/08/sarah_palin_wolves/index.html) about how the program is not only anti-wolf, but anti-science. From the salon article: "Last year, 172 scientists signed a letter to Palin, expressing concern about the lack of science behind the state's wolf-killing operation.....Apparently Palin wasn't fazed. Earlier this year she introduced state legislation that would further divorce the predator-control program from science. The legislation would transfer authority over the program from the state Department of Fish and Game to Alaska's Board of Game, whose members are appointed by, well, Palin. Even some hunters were astounded by her power play."

Rovian. I love it. Some faceless 527 group? Being from back east, we don't share the weird western hatred of wolves. Look like cute cuddly dogs to us. Sarah Palin shoots dogs for fun and cuts off their cuddly feet.

@3 - Who doesn't love a good wolfburger in the depths of winter? You're kidding, right? Killing for food? We don't eat canines in this country - Alaska i'm not so sure about.

Sad, but true.

@7: Food, fur, sport, boredom, whatever. Anti-hunting/gun-anything is poison to a presidential campaign. This ad does Obama no favors.

What this ad is talking about isn't hunting. It's slaughter. Rank and file hunters detest this. It's not hunting. It's like fishing in a barrel. This isn't the type of hunting that my friends in Michigan did where folks go out and spend hours in blinds or up in trees waiting for the perfect shot.

Hunting for food? Sure. This ain't that. Many Americans, including hunters, find this sort of thing detestable.

As an animal lover who isn't too turned off by hunting (I wouldn't do it myself, but in some instances I think it's ok, if not an excellent idea.), what I hate about aerial hunting is the lack of fair play. It's a dangerous world out there for animals. They can be picked off by predators or other members of their own species. With regular hunting, the animal at least has a chance. There's no chance of escape with aerial hunting, and the terror the wolf must feel as it's trying to get away really pisses me off.

Can teh average american outdoors person afford to chase down wolves from a helicopter. What a wuss. She can't even put on a good chase. Regualar hunting is survival and old tradition. Helicopter hunting is elitist prick behavior.

She needs to extend her pro-Life stance to include animals.

How on earth does anyone consider it "hunting" to shoot at animals from a plane?

Do they fish with by dropping explosives into the water?

I play video sparingly at work, so I really hope that this video opens with a half dozen Hueys on the sunrise horizon to the tune of Also Sprach Zarathustra, ensuing with machine guns and rockets firing at packs of scared, running wolves.

Cause that would == bomb.

Even Alaskans don't like the wolf kill. I heard they voted twice for a referedum to stop the aerial kills. What I heard ON THE RADIO anyway. But Palin supported a legislative overturn? I'm not sure those details and not getting it on google.

And guess what? A lot of conservatives and middle of the road people like animals. Send the video to the dog and cat collector in your life.

the low road. finally.

it hardly matters that the wolf kill is ostensibly to "protect" elk & caribou populations from "overpopulation" of predators, because wolves are CUTE. it's like killing bears because they strip bark off timber (which is a time-honored washington state practice).

keep 'em coming, 527s!

We won't support spine-less NO-Bama and will re-defeat him in November !! Go Hillary 2012 !!!

What's the bounty if they shoot the wolves in the face with buckshot?

(It's a Cheney reference.)

So the reality of this situation is that the wolves (and in some places the bears) are over populating and killing off the other wildlife across the state. While most of us would disagree with the methods it stands to reason that unless we want to continue to see the decline of other species like elk, moose, and caribou (to name a few), the predators need to be thinned. This ad was created with the sole pourpose of making uneducated people angry and it would be nice if before everyone passed judgment they would stop and look at the true facts. I have no great love of McCain/Palin or Obama for that matter, but on this issue it annoys me to see people jumping to conclusions. I have lived in Alaska my eniter life and my family subsists on wild game. The calves that the predators are killing off are really hurting the game populations.

Does she support the aerial hunting of pit bulls? If so, we might have a Slog dilemma...

But she gets the Rancher vote for the wolf hunt. Sorry, but when you have wolves killing livestock you don't really think of wolves as sweet animals.

It looks like 9/12 was Obama's date to release the 527s. :)

And I'm willing to bet that this ad won't be run in Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, etc. anyway.

I think somebody needs to toss Palin into a real-life version of Surviving the Game. What a fucking cunt. I can totally see people lynch mobbing her if she gets into office. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse than Bush...

@22: Ranchers can get off their fat fucking asses and build predator-proof fences like anyone with half a brain would do that cared about their livestock. Also, nobody said shooting a wolf in self defense or to protect livestock was bad; putting bounties on them and slaughtering them with aerial snipers is. Look at the bigger picture.

And stuff like this still doesn't convince people around here that a vote for Nadir or McKinney, or no vote at all, is a vote for McCain.

Very, very few hunters support aerial hunting, folks. It's considered about as honorable as hunting over the internet.

The best thing that could happen is if Palin just suddenly exploded into a thousand pieces on live television...for no apparent reason.

Also, the rancher defense angle doesn't hold up. Any intelligent rancher protects their livestock with fences (I thought everyone knew that, maybe somebody should tell Alaskan ranchers about this invention). Shooting wolves from an airplane while they are minding their own business is fucking insanely cruel, and I don't want anyone that would even humor that idea anywhere the presidential office of this country. Jesus fucking christ...what is wrong with these people?

Every day we learn something new and appalling about this woman.

After she and McCain lose the election, I pray she's voted out in AK too.
