Western PA, especially southwestern PA, is a whole 'nother ballgame (so to speak). There are some Steeler fans there who are rabid enough and shallow enough that, if they were undecided, her declaration could be enough to sway their vote. I'm not proud of that fact about my hometown, but I have to acknowledge it.

The only place I've seen more mindless, rabid fans are in the states that have SEC college football teams. When I was in Alabama working during Gustav, I saw two people at a gas station almost come to blows because one was wearing Auburn gear in Alabama territory. In Baton Rouge, people start tailgating on Thursday for a Saturday night game. During the second week following Gustav, people were more concerned about whether the North Texas game would have to be played in Texas than they were about when schools would reopen, and a bunch of students and other random people volunteered entire days to clean up around Tiger Stadium so it could be played in BR.

It's a sickness, really.
