It's all over for the shouting.

Slapshot Palin checked the competition -- into the wall!

For once, I agree with Chris Matthews (and may God, Allah, whatever strike me down for saying so): this Palin thing is all about courting the redneck vote. AKA: the anti-Obama vote. Rednecks hate everything about Obama. And how can we really characterize Sarah Palin but as a redneck, albeit one with a pearl necklace?

You know, I think she did a pretty good job. Hit all the right marks to appeal to conservatives across the country. She didn't win over any converts with that speech (independents, undecideds, and the like). But, to me, her whole purpose is to unite the base. And I agree: she's a good attack dog.

Palin's lipstick is almost exactly like Holly's on Girls Next Door. The only difference - both are meticulous mind you - is the Holly's top lip is glossed. Always.

Everyone's bitchy ex-girlfriend is the GOP nominee for Vice-President. Her Mayberry schtick may work with the folks in that room, and some of the small town doofuses, but elections aren't won in small towns.

If nothing else, I bet she fired up a bunch of Obama supporters with her bitchy backwoods diatribe.

If he was looking for a VP who can swing the hatchet, McCain has chosen well.

But help me out here -- when did Barack Obama say that Wasilla, AK isn't "cosmopolitan?" (Even though it would be hard to disagree with that.)

Like others have said, this is just preaching to the choir. If this was supposed to win over the undecideds, I don't think it was very effective. She said "let me be specific" about Obama's tax plan and then continued to speak in generalities. Really weak shit for people not already planning on voting the ticket.

MILFs for McCain!

Did anyone else see them all up there at the end and think they were seeing McCain and his (other) trophy wife?

She also looked and sounded like she was trying to hold back the saliva from a small wad of chewing tobacco in her right cheek. Which wouldn't be too surprising.

Disgusting. What a stupid hateful speech. Sarah Palin is the perfect example of what Barack Obama and the Democrats are fighting against--the disgusting and useless division of American citizens based on where you live, who you love, etc.

They can put as much lipstick on this hog as they want to, but it's not gonna change who Sarah is--a pig in the mud. Way to elevate dialogue, SP.

Meanwhile, Obama's apparently going on O'Reilly tomorrow, after a personal convo with Fox's head guy:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/02/AR2008090202730.html?nav=hcmodule

And should we be salivating over Biden v. Palin? Here's the thing: 'murkins are clearly sexist, so Biden should let Palin step in enough shit on her own so that we can say she's clearly incompetent. If Biden attacks her, he's "beating up on a girl," and I'm not sure, still, why THAT's not a sexist thing to say.

Again, Matthews hittin' it and quittin' it: Palin's running for first lady. She really is aimed squarely at the Obamas. The Obamas are the new Clintons. How else to motivate the base than to attack the out of touch, elitist, east coast, international, Ivy-educated, uppity black folk?

watching that speech makes me feel actually insane. such a seamless performance of lies and warp and attacks based on lies and slogans based on a warped view...it makes me angry because i can see how she will be powerful in winning the votes of people who can't defend themselves against such things. my head is going to explode.

That was it? Kinda thought seeing that she had some of the best speech writers that money can buy and all she had to do was read a prompter that she'd do a lot better. I almost fell asleep between her whining and her playing the fear card.

@32 for the win.

Yup.

You can fight fair.

Or you can go for the jugular.

What I learned...

Sarah fired the state hired cook. I am sure the cook had a good resume.

Bristol so fucking does the cooking.

Sarah, does not strike me to be a nanny hiring kind of a gal. At least not full-time. Gov'nor and all.

The girls, or at least one of them, "play" mommy when not studying.

The hapless sinner of the family, that young lad of what is sure not to be in posession of an altogether "happy ending" life, will after this year of school, get a job with the father-in-law for his own "most dangerous job" of artic fishhing, oil rigging, or working for his uncle sam.
Far, Far, so very far away for the mother-in-law.

Biden will be able to go after this yard girl IF the feminists have his back. Rachel Maddow put it so well today when talking about the inappropriate charges of sexism being labeled at anyone who criticized Palen.

So Hillary, Geraldine, et al..... drop your egos for a moment and come to the aid of your country.

Everyone should check out Andrew Halcro's blog: http://www.andrewhalcro.com/blog/admin

Halcro ran against Palin as an Alaska Independent (yes THAT party) in 2006. Don't let his affiliation with that party fool you though. Halcro is a smart, reasonable businessman in Alaska and he has A MAJOR AX TO GRIND WITH PALIN. He has blogged criticism of her performance as governor since the beginning.

Is he a sore loser? Possibly. But that doesn't change the fact that he has so much to say, much of it that is relavent to her so-called executive experience.

Okay, correction to my above post about Andrew Halcro. He did NOT run under the Alaska Independent Party, he simply ran as an unaffiliated independent candidate. This makes him that much more credible.

Democrats (and supporters like YOU) are going to spectacularly lose the elections unless they stop maundering pathetic crap about Palin’s inexperience and start saying that except for a new face she is a blatant disguise for NO CHANGE and NO REFORMS at all, she is the staunchest supporter of the same suicidal policies of McCain-Bush II. And more importantly, if they (democrats) do not start talking about substance. Why are democrats such cowards? Why do they join the celebration a “war hero” and a ‘great American”? Why cannot they reveal McCain’s shameful voting record – all in favor of big oil and against helping Katrina victims and war veterans? Why cannot they simply say about Palin and McCain: Vote for them – and 50 million will remain uninsured, women will be thrown far back in their rights, especially right to chose, our environment will be further destroyed by shameless oil companies, America will further lose its competitiveness in innovative renewable energy technologies and also the remainder of catastrophically shrinking respect of the rest of the world. Vote for them – and they will give more billions of YOUR dollars to the mad men in Georgia and Ukraine instead of Katrina victims or miserably failing American education. Is it not true?? And why cannot democrats say (no, shout) the most important thing instead of muttering about insufficient vetting: Do you understand that this republican ticket is put forth by forces that are planning to drag this country into another BIG WAR, maybe even a NUCLEAR WAR -- because these forces CANNOT EXIST WITHOUT WAR? But democrats are too scared to say all this. And they WILL lose. Poor America…
