Rock On A Roll

posted by on September 26 at 9:20 AM

Chris Rock on Larry King:

KING: You must be … proud that at this stage in our history a black man is running for president on a major ticket.

ROCK: Um, you know what? I’m proud Barack Obama’s running for president. You know? If it was Flavor Flav, would I be proud? No. I don’t support Barack Obama because he’s black.

I watched the whole interview last night. King tried to bait him into saying something off the cuff (ala Letterman) all night. Rock was really on message - like someone from the Obama camp gave him set talking points before the show.

He really stressed the Hillary voters thing - perhaps because he was making fun on the Clintons on Letterman and had to do a little damage control. Also really avoided saying anything 'Black' like his Vick comments (although he did quietly say it once).

My favourite moment was King was asking him about Obama's first day as president and made a remark about new 'foods' in the White House. Rock stated "He's a man first" and said over and over again how Obama was 'normal' and 'regular' and not 'Black' per se or 'Rich' like the McCains. A point he stressed repeatedly.

Not 'funny' but very 'on message'

I have my own pair of hellions that prevent me from watching live TV. Fortunately it's all on the 'net now

@3,

Well, I imagine he was referring to arugula.

However, when the Clintons took over the White House in '92, they, especially Hillary as First Lady, focused on really good food, pretty much the best of the best of American cuisine. When the Bushes took over, they started serving turkey brined in Coca Cola and stuffed with Dunkin' Donuts and I really wish I was kidding.

good for Rock. Maybe he's not as much of a cracker-hater as I had previously thought

I watched the whole interview and thought that Rock was great. Makes me excited to see his new show.

I agree with him about Flava Flav but come on - there's got to be a place in an Obama administration for Chuck D. Fight the powers that be!

@1, speaking of which, I overheard two 8th grade girls the other day arguing over whether Ice Cube or Ice T was the rapper. I felt OLD.

@6 Compared to most of us, yes you're right. But compared to the McCains, the Obamas are a family of relatively modest means.

@6 Yes, Obama is a black man with a million dollars to show for his and his educated, working wife's couple of decades of hard, specialized and high-profile honest employment.

That's exactly the equal of being a worthless white man who married a rich adulteress with a hundred million dollars, marrying her before your divorce goes through, and living in seven homes and driving thirteen cars.
