But, wait, I thought she was a pit bull? I thought she was going to smash the glass ceiling, break into the boys' club? That she didn't need protection from her own moronic mistakes and self-serving brand of gimme politics? Was I wrong?
The new ad is galling upon contact, but that shit don't make no sense. Because the Obama campaign is investigating a woman running for vice-president, his "campaign of hope" is a lie?
Clearly McCain is chasing the retarded racist vote.
Good god! It is clear that the campaign has no shame! Americans who fall for this shit are responsible for electing a complete liar? Gah.
However, it's a good thing I like wolves. Remember, the 3 little pigs were complete assholes. I say to Obama, "Book, schnook, blow da house down!"
Am I picking up a Roveian stench emanating from this?
Well, this shit works. And so many of you said in 2006 that to Karl Rove book of politics doesn't work anymore. God, I am not sure who are dumber, Americans who fit the "Joe 6-pack" label or foolish liberals running around in November 2006 yelling "Karl Rove is finished!!".
From now on, I'm going to wear one of those air-brushed wolf worship sweatshirts from Pike Place out of solidarity.
I thought Sarah Palin dealt with wolves by chasing them with planes until they passed out and then gunning them down?
please please please, when you post these videos, please don't use the John McCain provided copies on youTube. there are hundreds of ways to capture it and repost, or find already reposted copies. i just feel sick letting the video get more hits when i disagree so much with him and these videos
I'm not a regular commentator on Slog, but I read it obsessively and comment often enough. Now, though, I'm launching a one-man campaign to get Slog to do this:
every time Official Slog writers post article about McCain and Palin's sleazy, dishonest campaign tactics, they should (must? oughta?) end the post with a tag:
"Click here to donate to Obama."
There's one way Obama can win: outrage from his base, which leads to more money.
Please Dan, Christopher, Eli, Erica, Charles, and everyone else. Do us all a favor and close with a link to Obama's donation page. (if you're really tech savvy, you could figure out how to track the donations generated by Slog, then boast how you helped, not just complained).
Here's another suggestion; let's stop with the hand wringing and doom and gloom. I think we're missing a larger point - McCain made a smart pick in terms of someone who energizes the base, and the Campaign played it smart with her introduction. She's had, at least in the short term, a huge public fascination level - mostly because we have no idea who she is so tune in to see what little bits and pieces are being doled out.
Even with all of that, though, they've only managed to pull even...and they're not going to see any more spike.
Give money, take it seriously, don't assume it will be easy - but as much press coverage as they've gotten out of Palin only managed to level the playing field. One thing that takes hold, one bad story that sticks, one lasting negative impression and they start to see a decline. She's only been out there 11 days; you can hide for a few weeks, but not forever.
Yes. Donate now rather than later. Ohio voting starts in 20 days on Sep 30, for example.
Given her refusal to answer questions about background, policy or temperment we damn well be investigating her if we want to know anything about who we are voting.
Seriously. Let's quit being so defeatist. Maybe we will lose in the end- but, to sound like a high-school inspirational speech- if we get dejected now and give up, they've already won.
That ad is insane. It basically says, look, Obama's trying to dig up dirt on Palin and use it against her! Has he no shame! Unfortunately, is that not exactly what this ad is doing?
The real message is, Obama, he's just as dirty as the McCain campaign is! WTF?
The McCain campaign can get away with this kind of bullshit fear mongering in large part because some of the attacks on Palin have been distortions or lies.
And the Slog is too often guilty of contributing. Say by hammering on Palin's presumed strict abstinance-only stance when she in fact supports including condoms in teen education.
Being advocacy journalists doesn't mean you all get a pass on fact-checking yourselves.
McCain and Palin provide ample supplies of real sleaze and fucked-up policy positions to report on. Let's all start doing our homework, getting our sourcing straight and making sure our citation trails are non-circular, and digging for counter-indications before posting.
Let's stop being so eager to crucify McCain and Palin that we give them free ammo instead.
@15, thanks for the link. In that article is the following quote:
"I'm pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues," she said during a debate in Juneau.
So, uh, where did Bristol hear/unhear about them? As a Mom/Governor, Palin failed in both scenarios.
Oh come on, why is anyone surprised at that kind of ad? Listen, the GOP base would vote for a stinking pile of shit if it promised to lower their taxes and believed in god. So don't let this garbage depress you. Take care of business, support Obama with hard cash, and forget the crap they dangle in front of their base.
ReverendZ @16, thanks for reminding me of the "avenues" quote. Maybe Palin means that teens should learn about condoms on the street?
</hypocritical snark>
Here's my question: Why can the Republicans churn these spots out every other day while the Obama campaign needs a month to get it's Avid shit together?
#19 I'm thinking there is a sweatshop of eitors somewhere in Sek Yan churning out the McCain horseshit. Do these ads even run anywhere other than on news broadcasts?
Pit bulls, mavericks, pigs, wolves, what's next baskets of kittens?
At least Governor Palin can protect herself by shooting those nasty critters from the comfort of a low flying helicopter.
Oh Yeah, how in the world did I forget about moose and polar bears?
Under normal circumstances, wild wolves are generally timid around humans. Wolves usually try to avoid contact with people, to the point of even abandoning their kills when an approaching human is detected,[1] though there are several reported circumstances in which wolves have been recorded to act aggressively toward humans. Compared to other carnivorous mammals known to attack humans in general, the frequency with which wolves have been recorded to kill people is much lower, indicating that though potentially dangerous, wolves are among the least threatening for their size and predatory potential.[2]
@7 I was going to mention that. Wolves run from Sarah Palin, not the other way around.
This is easy to rebut--Obama has already made personal attacks "off limits". Let's stick to policy, people. Bloggers & journalists can stop documenting her personal problems and focus on the facts as shown by her voting record and refusal to answer questions.
Once she starts debating Biden, this will all work out.
All I heard was "I'm John McCain and I have a funny-shaped lump of flesh for a left cheek."
