Re: Obama Hits McCain Hard

posted by on September 15 at 9:40 AM

I was just about to post the same commercial, with the added point that there’s still a bit further the Obama campaign can go with this effort to highlight McCain’s lies.

From my post on Saturday about the lying game, and the opportunity it provides Obama:

I think there will come a point sometime soon when there’s enough of a critical mass of media lie-noting, or calling out of untruths on McCain’s part, that the Obama campaign has an opportunity to work that up into a list of indictments, a sort of bill of particulars. And to say, “Lying about this, lying about that, lying about the Bridge to Nowhere, lying about their experience… Sound familiar? It’s like the lies that the Bush administration told you for the last eight years. It’s like the lies about Iraq…

That, I think, could be a very heavy anchor to wrap around the necks of Palin and McCain—and, it doesn’t fall prey to any of the cultural shields about sexism and so on. This is about an issue [lying] that everyone can grasp. It doesn’t have anything to do with gender or identity.

The new Obama commercial hits hard—but not as hard as it could.

There are very few one-punch knockouts in boxing, and fewer in politics.

A razor cut here and a razor cut there, and soon the McCain/Palin ticket will be gushing blood.

McCain and the conservatives want us all to have less, so that they can have more. Anybody who thinks Dino Rossi would govern this state any better than Bush has governed the country should seek professional help -- expect for fuckwits like Bailo, who are beyond help.

I hope they will continue to highlight this, but think it's wise to see how this plays before taking it further. Even though the lies have been pervasive and obvious, it's tricky to label your opponent as dishonest. The appeal at this point needs to be to indepedent voters, and Obama needs the dishonesty to be an apparent part of the McCain brand, without being perceived as descending into negative campaigning himself.

I also like how it reinforces these press sources as places we should go for information - mitigating the attempts of McCain/Palin to paint all media as elite and biased.

Hopefully, part of a one - two punch.

how about some lies about mccain? ones that might get some traction in the more bigoted areas of america? i hear he has a illegitimate black child...

I know I'm relieved to see some of the PACs stepping up the attack game, since the Obama campaign can't seem to muster any real venom.

Has anyone checked out the ads being run by Truth And Hope? http://truthandhope.org/
They are raising money to air grassroots youtube ads in key battleground states. I like the one called Judgment.
