Ah, my home state.

This may result from women and children living with bad guys very isolated from any neighbors. It's probably helpful for their well being to have other folks around.

Another reason why cities are good.

BTW how does Washington State rank?

So, she's basically saying that the reason she fired him was because he was for taking action to reduce violence against women? That's excellent. Leave it to her to come up with an explanation that actually makes her look worse than if she fired him because he wouldn't fire her ex-brother-in-law.

"Rogue"? Is that anything like, say, a "maverick"? Just wondering.

Budgetary? Classic, this from the woman who as Governor collected tens of thousand of dollars in tax payer money for "per diem" while living at home. Money that was intended to compensate the expenses incurred while living away from home on state business.

As far as sexual assault, I am sure that she just thought that 1- those hussies where asking for it, so, it was God's way of punishing them. 2- It was God's way of increasing the State population. And 3- Anything to keep the men folk happy, because it gets awfully cold and dark up there.

#2: alaska isn't even close to the most rural state (which is vermont, weirdly enough).

alaska has by far the highest male:female ratio, though, which is probably the #1 reason why sexual assault is such a problem there. palin as governor is probably a close #2.

So, she was against his going to D.C. before she was for it - or were she fer it afore she were agin it?

Crazy conservatives - it's a wonder their heads don't pop off their necks like a cork from a warm bottle of champaign for all the cerebral twisting they do.

Looking at that census data, it appears that women don't like to live in the sticks (AL, NV, CO, UT, HI), even if the surfing's great.

The absolute last word on this has to be from "Get Your War On", now in a convenient, video format:

It is brilliant. You should consider embedding it into the Slog proper.

But it gets worse. The chief wanted money for "rape kits" (used to collect evidence of sexual trauma). But Palin refused to spend discretionary public funds for the rape kits because they included emergency contraception for the victims. That's the real reason the chief went to DC.

I hope Biden uses this in the VP debate. I want him to use it so bad.

The Weekly Standard has the pdf of Palin's motion about Monegan's dismissal. Check out page 10, where Palin's lawyers refer to the sexual assault initiative as a "pet" project. Classy.

As a recovering Alaskan, the domestic violence problem is somewhat attributable to isolation (which can be geographic as well as emotional). The biggest problem is just the pervasive blame-the-victim attitude everywhere - I have experienced this, and have friends who have experienced it. It can be rare to get support from your own family, much less the larger community, police, judges, you name it. Culturally Alaska is probably 50 years behind Seattle on this issue.

I also hope that this gets more exposure, especially contrasted with Biden's role in forming the Violence Against Women Act.
