I can't find any mention of what breed(s), but KIRO quoted one of the man's neighbors on August 11:
Neighbors said the dogs often fought each other.“They were vicious dogs. On time they came up to the fence and started fighting each other and they ripped one dog’s neck and (the owners) had to take it and get it fixed because they were killing each other,” said neighbor Luke Hale. “I’ve been around dogs all my life and there was something wrong with those dogs.”
The original Times story of the incident mentions 27 dogs "of various sizes and breeds," though the subhead says "pit-bull puppies."
Cold comfort: ""The dogs didn't attack him," Troyer said. "He was down, and they used him as a food source."" Blech.

@4, maybe you find "cold comfort" in being dined on by dogs ...
Adorablezville!
Mary Provost did not look her best
The day the cops busted into her loneiy nest
In the cheap hotel up
on Hollywood West July 29
She'd been lyin' there
for two or three weeks
The neighbors said
they never heard a squeak
For hungry eyes that couid not speak
Said even little doggies have got to eat
She was winner
That became a doggie's dinner
She never meant that much to me
(But now I see) Oh poor Mary
(Marie Provost By Nick Lowe)
In this case I don't think it matters that they were pit-bulls. I think the starvation, over crowding, and abuse probably was triggered the attack. Usually it's only cats that consumes there dead owners.
p.s. This doesn't mean I like pits. I think they are as inbred and imbecilic as the people who insist on breeding them.
Actually, it was the "cute" caption that made my real objection to these dogs clear to me. They are not cute. Not as adults and sure not as puppies.
If a dog isn't attractive, what good is it?
@7: marie prevost immediately came to mind, too.
@8: he wasn't dead. he JUST DIED in the nursing home.
Oh, it's Sarah Palin's kids!
eliza ftw
You got that right, Bob.
@8, assuming the article's right and the global anti-pit bull conspiracy hasn't taken over the seattle times, there were various types of dogs there of all ages and breeds but only the pit bull puppies mauled the old man.
