Polls, Polls, Polls

Good news this morning for Barack Obama.

That tracking poll bump I mentioned last week now seems to be translating into leads in key states like Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and—and this is potentially big—Florida. Something about the combination of bad economic times and continuing attacks on John McCain is clearly helping the Obama campaign.

Yes, Obama’s Minnesota and Florida leads are within the margin or error, but check out an electoral college map and you can see why it’s such a big deal if Obama can carry all of the above-mentioned states. Here are the poll numbers:

COLORADO: Obama 49 – McCain 45

MICHIGAN: Obama 48 - McCain 44

MINNESOTA: Obama 47 - McCain 45

WISCONSIN: Obama 49 - McCain 42

FLORIDA: Obama 47 - McCain 45

Stop trying to make the prescription meme happen; it's not going to happen!

To add one more state to the mix: Obama's up in Virginia, according to the Washington Post.

Among likely voters, Obama claims 49 percent. McCain trails with 46 percent. Can't remember specific numbers off the top, but I believe the new poll shows movement towards Obama.

Virginia hasn't gone Dem in a presidential election since 1964.

Fivethirtyeight.com is currently showing Obama over McCain 312 to 226. Seems quite optimistic to me, but still exciting to see.

@1, but Non - the prescription meme is so "Fetch"!

Also, as one who has called VA and FL home in recent years, I hope for once in my life that those states (sorry, one state, one commonwealth) will finally step up and back a candidate worth supporting.

Yes, Florida moving from McCain to toss up. The link provided is the no toss up map, you need to look at the toss up map.

As noted what, yesterday?

And in the mix of the bad economy or Obama's attacks, well, the economic tsunami obviously is driving this thing.

V. glad to see Obama make a connection in his new ad between the economic mess and health care.

As suggested here, what 2 days ago?

V. good article in NYT on Swedish model: they did the same thing but took equity stakes and this was the Conservative party!

IOW the Swedish Conservative party is more to the left than our wussy wuss Democratic party, who is not even out there in force demanding equity stakes.

they should.

The Florida lead is nowhere near the margin of suppression. Read your Palast, Eli.

I'm a little disappointed that he's not further ahead in Minnesota, but I'll keep crossing my fingers.

"Something about the combination of bad economic times and continuing attacks on John McCain is clearly helping the Obama campaign."

Gee, I can't imagine what that could be.

You're cherry picking polls. A couple of polls show Obama ahead in FL. Other polls show McCain ahead. Nevertheless, what seems obvious is that FL is in play. Another point of movement, and Obama very well could take FL.

Obama seems to be consistently moving ahead in VA in most recent polls, which is a very good sign.

There are several former red states that are now very much purple, and the polls are consistently moving in Obama's direction.

My election anxiety level is now moving down a tiny bit.
