Obama could counter with a similarly short ad spot: show a picture of McCain with Palin and voice over: Sera chingada.

Be it personal relationships, business or even politics, once you tell a lie and your lie is discovered, you are known as a liar from that time onward. It's permanent and cannot be revoked. Once a liar always a liar, and the willingness to trust you will always be in question. Don't lie.

This is case where McCain has everything to crow about. He has a legislative history of helping Mexican-Americans in his own state.
The art of politics is grappling with a dialectic of two divergent views. Having open borders while instigating reform wouldn't work...what would be the point of having a "system" if anyone could circumvent it...and that means employers who take advantage of labor that has zero rights to stand on.

@8 Even if what you say was true, then why not a McCain ad saying how great he is on immigration? Unless, of course, he's not and he's got nothing to say.
And how does this excuse another ad that lies? How is being a liar being ready to lead? If he's so ready, why doesn't he have one thing to say to prove it, instead of saying nothing but lies?

Because a positive ad would alienate Mexican-hating, racist voters. So he attacks instead.
Yes, 8, that begs the question... Why did he run this despicable lie about Obama when he could have run an honest positive ad about his own history on this issue? If he had even a scrap of his old convictions left he wouldn't have done this.

War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times. Saying no to war in Iraq means saying yes to the continued oppression of the Iraqi people.
In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves.
@ 15, that was written six years ago. Dan's changed his opinion and changed it with a reason. He says the war has been mismanaged and he doesn't deny having supported it. What exactly does it have to do with a post about McCain's lies written by Charles, who is NOT Dan Savage?
In response to the post, the Repubs abandoned their morals a long time ago. "I am not a crook!"
One thing about immigration -- it's basically stopped. The birth rate in Mexico has been plummeting...it's almost at replacement rate down from something like 6 to 2.
Politicians are thinking, why open a can of worms about a problem that has gone away.

Yeah, immigration from Mexico has slowed down, but there plenty more who are coming in from the rest of Central and South America. Most of the gang warfare in Arizona (and the rest of the Southwest) comes from this culture clash. The Hispanics who came earlier from Mexico detest the new immigrants coming in from the south. You know, like Cesar Chavez did. I think this one is going to come and bite McCain on the ass. Hispanics who vote are not the immigrants moving in today and want something done to keep "them" out of their neighborhoods.
The real Republican plan to halt the tide of illegal immigration from South of the border seems to be to plunge our economy into such a disastrous tailspin that there is no longer any economic incentive to move here.
Maybe a tide of immigration into Venezuela will follow. At least they've got oil money flowing in -- their government is in the black.
