Ignorance is Truth. War is Peace.

Why not just a quick spot: Barack Obama, demasiado joven, demasiado negro, demasiado dotado.

Obama could counter with a similarly short ad spot: show a picture of McCain with Palin and voice over: Sera chingada.

Perhaps, Charles, Truth has abandoned him.

Be it personal relationships, business or even politics, once you tell a lie and your lie is discovered, you are known as a liar from that time onward. It's permanent and cannot be revoked. Once a liar always a liar, and the willingness to trust you will always be in question. Don't lie.

Some excellent advice from a really cranky old man...Me.

Ahem, Senor McCain!

Mentiroso, Mentiroso! Pantalones en el fuego!

Remember when my party wanted to put you guys in cattle carts? Obama started the Mexican/American War!

This is case where McCain has everything to crow about. He has a legislative history of helping Mexican-Americans in his own state.

The art of politics is grappling with a dialectic of two divergent views. Having open borders while instigating reform wouldn't work...what would be the point of having a "system" if anyone could circumvent it...and that means employers who take advantage of labor that has zero rights to stand on.

"This is case where McCain has everything to crow about."

It really doesn't really matter any more. He has been caught lying, and he can't be trusted to ever again tell the truth.

@8 Even if what you say was true, then why not a McCain ad saying how great he is on immigration? Unless, of course, he's not and he's got nothing to say.

And how does this excuse another ad that lies? How is being a liar being ready to lead? If he's so ready, why doesn't he have one thing to say to prove it, instead of saying nothing but lies?

Ignore John Bailo, for he is a troll who supports liars.

@8,

Yeah, perhaps he did do the right thing once - and the Republican base would skin him alive if most of them knew about it.

Ya gotta dance with them what brung ya.

Oh yeah, and this ad is also conclusive proof (as if we needed more) that John McCain really is a dishonorable, disingenuous, world-class liar.

...and that, my friends, is the kind Straight Talk Express that Joesph Goebbels himself would jump right on.

@10,

Because a positive ad would alienate Mexican-hating, racist voters. So he attacks instead.

Yes, 8, that begs the question... Why did he run this despicable lie about Obama when he could have run an honest positive ad about his own history on this issue? If he had even a scrap of his old convictions left he wouldn't have done this.

Dan Savage -brave warrior Oct. 2002

War may be bad for children and other living things, but there are times when peace is worse for children and other living things, and this is one of those times. Saying no to war in Iraq means saying yes to the continued oppression of the Iraqi people.

In the meantime, invading and rebuilding Iraq will not only free the Iraqi people, it will also make the Saudis aware of the consequences they face if they continue to oppress their own people while exporting terrorism and terrorists. The War on Iraq will make it clear to our friends and enemies in the Middle East (and elsewhere) that we mean business: Free your people, reform your societies, liberalize, and democratize... or we're going to come over there, remove you from power, free your people, and reform your societies for ourselves.

@ 15, that was written six years ago. Dan's changed his opinion and changed it with a reason. He says the war has been mismanaged and he doesn't deny having supported it. What exactly does it have to do with a post about McCain's lies written by Charles, who is NOT Dan Savage?

In response to the post, the Repubs abandoned their morals a long time ago. "I am not a crook!"

One thing about immigration -- it's basically stopped. The birth rate in Mexico has been plummeting...it's almost at replacement rate down from something like 6 to 2.

Politicians are thinking, why open a can of worms about a problem that has gone away.

@ Troll #17:

Tears of derisive laughter stream down my face.

Yep, the complex issue of immigration has just "gone away".

All problems solved!

"But chances are that there will be a substantial decrease in illegal immigration from Mexico in the next 20 years, and it won't be because of civilian border patrols, laws being passed, pronouncements by politicians, or as some would like, "building a wall on the border." Instead, the cause will be demographic trends within Mexico itself, trends that have been largely ignored in the debate over immigration.

Mexico's population growth rate has dropped by more than 50 percent during the last five decades, according to the United Nations. The annual growth rate has declined from approximately 3 percent in 1960 to 1.3 percent today. And it is expected to continue to fall in the first decades of the 21st century; by 2050, the United Nations predicts, the rate will be negative. The fertility rate in Mexico has had a corresponding significant drop, from 6.9 children per woman in 1955 to 2.5 today. "

@ John Bailo,

Yeah, immigration from Mexico has slowed down, but there plenty more who are coming in from the rest of Central and South America. Most of the gang warfare in Arizona (and the rest of the Southwest) comes from this culture clash. The Hispanics who came earlier from Mexico detest the new immigrants coming in from the south. You know, like Cesar Chavez did. I think this one is going to come and bite McCain on the ass. Hispanics who vote are not the immigrants moving in today and want something done to keep "them" out of their neighborhoods.

The real Republican plan to halt the tide of illegal immigration from South of the border seems to be to plunge our economy into such a disastrous tailspin that there is no longer any economic incentive to move here.

Maybe a tide of immigration into Venezuela will follow. At least they've got oil money flowing in -- their government is in the black.
