Oh, the People You’ll Meet

I’d hoped to post a “Delegate of the Day,” but yesterday’s activities wrecked the camera. Instead, I’ll introduce you to the folks I met yesterday, one post at a time.

This dapper young caricature is called Dennis Lennox. He’s 24 and “the youngest delegate or alternate from Michigan.”

owl1.jpg

He didn’t have anything original to say—except that the protestors should cancel their march on account of the hurricane—but isn’t he cute? Like Republican Ken. Or a stylish lemur.

Sort of looks like Fnarf (with apologies to Fnarf).

that is an insult to lemurs!

i'm really tired of the blue ties.

i'm talking to YOU, Barack & Joe.

Yet *another* reason I'm glad we left Michigan.

Isn't that Sarah Palin's Down's Syndrome kid?

If Will in Seattle and Fnarf had a love child, it would look like this man.

@4 Amen. He looks so full of joie de vivre I can hardly stand it!

Aw, I think he's kinda cute.

And I like the look on the guy's face in the background.

didn't rick moranis play him in the movie?

Just be sure that you label the stinky protest hippies as caricatures, as well. I'd rather a fella wear a jacket and tie than a stinky hoody covered with spots of ramen noodle broth.

he needs to learn how to do a tie knot properly.

Hey, hey, HEY! I do NOT look like this boob! See that knot? Hideous. And there's a huge divot in his tie, which suggests he doesn't know how to pack. And my hair has never been that neatly combed unless I'm in costume. And the glasses! Dear God, those glasses are a travesty. I'll bet he jerks off to George Will columns.

Looks like Ralphie grew up to be a Republican.

Half of me wants to sit down in gigantic old chairs with him, with a couple glasses of brandy and some pipes and a loyal hound curled up at our feet. The other half wouldn't dare pass up the golden opportunity to punch him in the face.

If I was a rich Republican and I knew I had no fashion sense, I would check with my valet before leaving the house.

A tie that wide should can only hold a full-windsor knot.

The hardest challenge this young man has faced in his life is getting the older man forehead wrinkle established.

@16 - how come you never do that with me? with me it's just p.b.r. an unmade bed and a fat cat licking the skin off my feet.

Posted by le Juif | September 2, 2008 10:01 AM

But guys like him pinch their ties super-tight for a reason. It's not the only thing that's tight. But yes, he's play-acting here; which is OK, except that he's not doing it well.

I'll bet you a million dollars he butts into conversations about Salma Hayek with anecdotes about Friedrich Hayek.

Making the bed is arguably the most unproductive thing you can do in the morning.

@25 - seeing as how you don't have a bed, I would have to agree with you.

Sidenote: While looking for that Christmas Story poster, I ran across pics of the real Ralphie... Who knew he'd grow up to be so ruggedly handsome?

Here's to hoping this fellow never sets eyes on SLOG today... otherwise there will be (at least) one staffer getting a protest letter (yet, again) from certain fellow's pastor.

@5: I love a laugh and mockery as much as the next guy, (see my usual posts) but drawing in a baby that will have a difficult life is in poor taste. Really.

I'm not sure he's a caricature. I'd say he's a parody of a caricature. Or maybe a caricature of a parody.

Oh Fnarf. I'm going to have crazy passages from The Road to Serfdom stuck in my head all day now.

Fuck.

@ 34: Right you are! He said he went to CMU and was a Mittcase.

But what do you mean by "taping his professor"? In the bathroom? To a chair?

He doesn't look a day over 40.

Well, Brendan, my friend has since signed off from AIM, but a quick Google search turned up a lot of fuss from right-wing blogs. Apparently he had some hostile encounter with the interim dean of CMU and posted it onto YouTube. He was also reprimanded for distributing a newsletter critical of Gary Peters, and apparently the school officials presiding over the resulting hearing refused to participate because Lennox wanted to videotape the proceedings.

I don't know how much of that is true and how much is blog spin, but it's worth taking away that the title of one Google hit was "CMU Faculty label Lennox 'Virginia Tech dangerous'".

@41 beat me to it, but I'll add that he also looks like the Late Mr. Burns with a particularly troublesome bout of "painful rectal itch"

Posted by COMTE | September 2, 2008 2:22 PM

Unfortunately for him, by the time he gets to 30 he'll look like a caricature of a banker in a 1930's comedy, as long as he remembers to keep a soggy cigar handy at all times. The expression on his face is priceless, but boy does he ever need help dressing himself!

I have met Dennis and he is every bit of what the foregoing comments portray.

El Nerdo, strango -- almost makes me feel sorry for him.
