word.
the chicago machine knows how to fight.
If McCain has to be away from D.C. for the day of the debate, he can stay in contact with the other senators on his Blackberry!
Not sure this is best tactically.
It's good to be definite, check. And it might be the right move.
But perhaps the GOP will force Obama to take a vote in DC at 7 pm Friday......you know congress is supposed to sdjourn then. Usually on procedural stuff you might need 2/3.
What I'd rather see Obama fighting on is the substance of the package ie an equity stake. That's what's going to ocunt to make this package worker-friendly.
Why in the world would we take the downside of a $700B investment and not the full upside?
I need to hook myself up with a cartoonist (or learn to draw a lot better), because I have a vision. McCain standing in front of Karzai and Talabani, asking:
"Could we put the wars on hold for a little bit fellas? I've got some other stuff to deal with right now."
I guess the move sort of plays into the whole 'maverick' image thing...But at least to these eyes, it just looks erratic and symptomatic of this whole 'governing with your gut' debacle that the republican party has been playing up recently.
I can see why the fiscal conservatives at least are embarrassed by the shambles of what used to be their party. In what way are the epileptic lurchings of the McCain campaign appealing to anyone at all? How can anyone read this as a sign of strong leadership?

This stunt by McCain reminds me of the time Yelstin couldn't get off the plane to meet with Clinton. Everyone thought he was drunk but he'd actually had a stroke.
Well, Jim, the reality is that McCain probably DID have a stroke.
Have you seen his pics today ...
