No, Really—Worry

Shots fired in US-Pakistan clash:

The United States military says US and Afghan forces have exchanged gunfire with Pakistani troops across the border with Afghanistan.

A senior US military official says a five-minute skirmish broke out after Pakistani soldiers fired warning shots near two US helicopters.

Financial crisis (the bailout), political crisis (suspended campaigns), more political crisis (McCain polling better than he should), nuclear crisis (North Korea giving us the finger), and now the Pakistani army has the cojones to fire at the U.S. military? Could you even imagine that happening eight years ago? No. You cannot.

To repeat a post from yesterday: we are losing leverage by the day.

Maybe we shouldn't be involved in other country's affairs. Maybe we should bring all of our troops home, for the sake of their health, the safety of the country, and to quit dumping billions into Iraq a month. Maybe we shouldn't be creating money out of thin air. Maybe we shouldn't be blowing billions on the drug war. Maybe we shouldn't be invading people's privacy and bursting into houses at 3am. Have either of the candidates addressed these issues? Of course not. Has any politician ever? Oh, wait, yeah, but he had been rumored to be a bigot, which no one followed up on, btw, and was laughed out of the race. Suck it, "republicans". You had your chance.

Brendan, you forgot Venezuela and Russia in your accounting of woe.

Pakistan said they were going to do this, which I pointed out on the 16th thank you very much. I'm not very surprised they followed through on it, though one would think with the recent Marriott bombing they'd be somewhat busy themselves.

With tin foil hat primly planted upon my head, I am feeling less like a loon in believing that Cheney-Bush will postpone the election. Make things look like we are in so much turmoil that we cannot change leadership, and presto! Cheney-Bush third term, their ultimate wet dream.
